Chapter 8: Jaws of Danger

A blast of almighty fear went through Vix. It was stronger than anything she had felt in her life. Her terror did not paralyze her, this time, it electrified her.

‘He’ll kill you,’ she told herself. ‘He’ll kill you, don’t you understand? Move, you idiot! RUN!’

The moment passed in the merest blink of a second.

Then, Vix sprang forward. She hurtled across the warehouse floor, making for the nearest window. A hiss like steam came from behind her. She ignored it. Blood pumped through Vix’s body, thudding in her ears, moving her faster.

A deafening bang rang out through the silence. Something screeched off the floor near Vix’s foot and clattered away into the darkness.

A rifle shot, her mind told her numbly. This man was armed. Something told her that he would not miss again.
