Chapter 70: A Guilty Conscience

I didn't know if I should or shouldn't explain to Hannah and Chase what happened at my old school. I didn't want them to doubt me, and, truthfully, it wasn't anything bad.

It hurt me to know someone so close to me hated me so much for some reason. I would never understand it, but Izzy was definitely active in her pursuits. I would give her that.

"Um, guys," I started to say, but my heart started to beat so loudly that I could barely focus. I hated the thought of being anything less in their eyes. Julie was head deep in her phone, but she looked up briefly.

"What?" Hannah asked. I bet she could tell something was on my mind. Then again, what wasn't on my mind? Chase looked at me like I was an innocent angel. I couldn't break that.

"I want to tell you what really happened at my last school," I admitted. They started to laugh, which caught me off guard. They didn't seem to be too concerned about my past, which should have given me more comfort than it was.
