Guilt

A teenage boy walks around downtown on a Friday night.

He's listening to music with headphones on completely unaware of his surroundings.

He walks past a bench with a little girl with twintails sitting on it, he pays the girl no mind, but the girl reaches her hand out and pulls on the boy's shirt.

He turns around and notices the girl.

The girl looks oddly familiar to him, he instantly feels remorse, guilt, and sorrow.

"I-i'm lost." the young girl says.

"Oh okay, did you lose your mom?" the boy asks the girl.

"Yeah, kinda."

The boy decides to help the girl.

After a while of talking with each other, the intense feeling of sorrow and guilt starts to grow bigger and bigger in the boy's heart.

They walk around downtown looking for the girl's mother but to no avail.

They find themselves at a park and sit on a bench.

The feeling that the boy had known the girl keeps nagging at him and so he asks, "Do I know you from somewhere?"

"I thought you'd never ask, I was getting tired of waiting."

"Huh."

"I was the one you didn't save."

Then the reason behind his intense feelings of guilt became apparent

Six years ago there was an earthquake in the same city they are in, as the young boy was leaving the store a great earthquake happened.

The store behind them had collapsed, and the young boy's legs ran toward the disaster hoping to save someone.

He hears a little girl screaming for her mother.

"MOM!!! MOM!!! WHERE ARE YOU!!!!"

He sees the girl buried under a pile of debris.

He tried to pull the girl from underneath.

The little girl kept screaming and crying begging for her mom.

"Don't worry I'll bring you to your mom, don't worry just hang on!"

"HELP ME, PLEASE I DON'T WANNA DIE, I DON'T WANNA DIIIIIIIEEEEEEE!!!"

The girl screams those final words and her eyes roll back inside her head and lays down.

The boy's mother runs up behind him and pulls him away.

The boy looks back at the girl's dead body and is completely absorbed in self-loathing.

"Why did you lie to me, why did you lie and say you'll help me, why did you lie and say that you'll help me find my mom?"

"WHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

The girl cries tears of blood.

The blood trickles down her face and her eyes roll back into her head screaming why over and over again.

The boy turns around to run away, but the ghost girl gives chase.

Fast forward a few days and the ghost girl has haunted the boy since that night.

Her constant cries and screaming, the guilt and remorse for his failure to save her, haunt him until he no longer can handle it and commits suicide.
