To the TRIAL

"Magic has always been in our family, every bit of us had it. But am so sorry my son." I told him."So, u mean I really had made that crack in the ground? I thought I was lying to myself, but apparently, it is real, I did it."

He had said. Since he was a child, he thought it to be cool and couldn't help smiling as he couldn't believe that he had done that."Is that what the magus does?" he had asked.

"Magi do magic with the help of earth, air, water, fire, wind and also space which is mainly dangerous and very powerful, it can even lead to chaos if not handled well. Magus can use magic for a lot of things, some bad and some good. They can even tear the earth apart just like what you've just done." I had told him then, "When magic first manifests to you, it is usually very strong that you can't control it. It takes a lot of training to be able to control it.

But Rwoth, you have to control it, you must. You must promise me that you will never use your magic ever again, because if you do, trust me, the oracular council will come for you. And they will take you to the mountain.""Is that where they are, the Oracular is in the mountain?" Rwoth had asked then.

"Yes dear, up the ice cap. Above the sea level where no one can find them. Up there you could even die of the frost and no one will be able to tell."Rwoth had swallowed a lump in his throat and asked.

"But Dad, you're a magus, aren't you?"

"Well, I am but I haven't used it since your mom died. And I will never use it again."

"Dad, did mom go there. I mean to the Oracular in the mountain?" Rwoth was so eager to know more about his mother, all he had were a few black and white photos that showed a pretty woman who shared a lot of his features. I never talked to him about how his mom was since I didn't want to remember all those terrible memories. Unless I really needed to.

"Yes, she went there. And its because of that she is dead. When the oracular goes to war, which happens a lot of times, the other dead magus are not cared about. Actually, they even pick out some of their members ready to sacrifice them just for the sake of their mission's success.

Which is why I don't ever want you to go there ever."I recall waking up to Rwoth's cry that night. He said he had dreamt being taken to the mountain cap and left there to die of the frost, he was literally shivering whilst sweating at the same time.

The next day, he dreamt being eaten by a monster that was as white as snow. He said it was also very cold. He tried to run away but it was like his legs were taking him back behind. He ended up getting caught by the monster that sent chills to the whole of his body making him blackout due to shock. As other kids his age were scared about ghosts and all the scary creatures, Rwoth was only scared of the magus.

But above everything else, he was mostly scared that he was one of them. And now, he was just about to met them. His mostly deadly fear. The reason his mother was dead and why his father was always moody and did not even have any friends. He was always in his workshop trying to put the wastes together to make them beauty.

They went past the sign that welcomes them to their town and Rwoth knew he was away from home. He did not know of any other lace other than home.It occurred to him at that time if he fails to mess the TRIAL, he might never be back home ever again. His stomach churned and he felt a chill in his bones. He immediately started thinking about his dad's plan making sure to arrange it perfectly so he would not be found out.

After like an hour, Rwoth let out a deep breath.'Its going to be fine after all, it's easy to mess up the tests.'

The car went off the highway onto a narrow murram road with a sign post with words' TRAINSTATION OUT OF USE' on it."Dad, where are we going? Are we using a train?" asked Rwoth."I really hope not." I had muttered back. As we went further, the road became a bit bumpy and Rwoth had to hold onto the door frame to keep himself from bumping with the car's roof.

After a turn, the road cleared and broadened further into a very huge green cleared field. In the middle of the field were a lot of cars parked around. I also drove and parked my car near the others. Rwoth saw a lot of kids his age and some younger than him with their parents hurrying towards some stadium hall at the edge of the field.

"I think we are a bit late." Rwoth muttered to no one in particular."Good, that's what I was aiming for." I said to him smiling to myself. I held Rwoth's hands getting him out of the car to where everybody was. Rwoth seemed to be happy, probably because he thought I had forgotten about the splint since I did not tell him to come out with it. It was afternoon and the sun seemed to have declared a war upon us. Rwoth kept wiping his sweaty palms on his school shorts as we moved to the stadium's entrance.

......................................................…Rwoth's POV

Once we entered inside, everything was all weird to me. All the kids were all smiles, their voices sounding cheerful all throughout the room. Benches were set up all around the room on which every one sat.

Across the room there were high tables and posh chairs that looked very comfortable. There, the magus sat
