We are not alone

"Hahahaha indeed, we are really lucky fro have our of them show up in our town." said another cyclops while laughing. One by one more and more cyclops appeared and surrounded the girls.

Christina held Annabeth's hand tightly. Her shoulder wound still hadn't healed so her left arm still hurt to use, but even if she was completely fine, facing the eight cyclops in front of her would be... impossible.

"Well I suppose this two could count as a snack until we find the others." said another cyclops. Christina and Annabeth looked at each other for a moment. While they were indeed extremely afraid right now, they didn't miss the monster's comments. It appeared they were not alone. For some reason Christina was relieved, even if they were facing so many monsters they had no way of defeating, there was something about not being the only ones that made her glad, it was like the world was... expanding. There aren't just infinite monsters everywhere hunting down just the two of them, there were other's who shared their troubles and pain, other's who could understand them.

An idea flashed through Christina's mind, she still had the smoke bomb they had planned to use at the hospital if things went wrong, however it wouldn't do anything against this monsters other than cause confusion for a few second, still it was worth a shot. In a swift movement, Christina grabbed the smoke bomb from under her coat and threw it to the floor.

Smoke covered the street, engulfing all the cyclops and the girls in an instant. Out of the smoke suddenly appeared two little blonde girls running as fast as possible while holding hands.

One after another, the cyclops started leaving the area covered in smoke and began their pursuit, following the girls across every street and through every alley they went to.

As Christina and Annabeth ran, the roars and grunts of the monsters indicated they hadn't managed to loose them. The sound of sirens increased as well, forcing the girls to wonder wether the police would be able to do something to protect them. They already knew no one but them could see the monsters, everyone always saw something else for some reason, but maybe the police would see the eight cyclops as bears and shoot them down. It was a long shot, but their brains were desperate enough to think of any and every possibility.

While still running, Christina pulled out her hammer and looked at Annabeth. "We will have to start taking them down one by one." she said with a serious yet tired face.

Annabeth nodded while tightening the grip on her already pullet out knife. "In that case we should enter a building or something, so that they can't attack all at once." she said, gaining a nod of understanding from Christina.

The owl had already disappeared from their sight, making it hard for them to know which direction they were supposed to go to. They kept on running, trying to escape the pursuit while searching for a place to fight back or hide safely.

While crossing through an alley the group of cyclops had yet to arrive at, an old door suddenly opened and hands appeared from within it, grabbing them and covering their mouths before closing the door.

Most likely because there was no ill-intent, their instincts failed to see it coming, leaving the girls scared, this fear however was not enough to make them freeze and they both tried attacking their assailants. Annabeth thrusted her knife forward, however she was disarmed in two simple moved before her mouth was covered again by the hands of a boy. Christina on the other hand had a harder time. She could only swing the hammer with her right arm and, while it was fine against monsters who weren't known for their intellect, it was a critical flaw against a more experienced opponent. Cristina was disarmed in a single move before a hand covered her mouth as well, preventing her from making any noise.

"Shhh, they will hear us." said the person holding Christina.

Heavy steps could be heard outside, accompanied with annoyed and tired grunts. This noises stopped after a few seconds, indicating the monsters had moved on.

"It won't be long before they realise they lost track of your smell so we need to get out of here now." said the boy who was covering Annabeth's mouth. "You are like us aren't you?" he asked. "Demigods."

Christina's eyes widened before looking at the equally shocked Annabeth. Nodding her head, Christina indicated that this was the case, making both the boy and the girl holding them smile a bit.

"Well we can talk more later, for now let's get out of here." said the girl before releasing Christina and giving her the hammer back. The boy did the same with Annabeth, returning the knife and indicating them to follow.

Christina, while cautious of them, was also glad. They had indeed saved them and there was something about them that felt... familiar. It was the same feeling she had when she saw Annabeth for the first time, the feeling that she could trust them.

Focusing on their appearances, Christina saw the boy had blonde hair and blue eyes. he was taller than her and appeared to be around twelve or thirteen years old. He had a small dagger and a backpack but nothing else. The girl on the other hand had black hair with similar blue eyes, yet her eyes felt different, it was like looking at a storm, or at least the lightings formed within it.

As they were making their way out of the building, Annabeth grabbed Christina's hand while looking at her. Christina nodded her head and a small smile formed on Annabeth's mouth. It seems they had finally found someone they could stick with, they really were not alone.

Author note:

They are actually in Virginia, however because they can't read they haven't realised yet. This information is irrelevant to the story though so don't think about it, it is mostly for any hardcore fan who might say that Halcyon's mansion is in Virginia.
