Chapter Sixty-Nine

Talia's POV:

When I woke up the next morning, Nicholas was gone again.

"Where is he?" I asked Louis at breakfast, watching as she sliced up some fruit salad for me. I still felt a striking pain in my ass whenever I moved, considering the overwhelming experiment Nicholas had there. I hope he doesn't try that again, or, it would be the end of me. Well, my hope was useless. Nicholas took whatever it was that he wanted.

"Work stuff," she simply said, her hands moving with graceful efficiency that I couldn't help but admire. "He should be back in a couple of days."

"What kind of work stuff?"

Louis shrugged. "I don't know. You can ask Nicholas that when he returns."

I looked at her, trying to understand how she was capable of coping with Nicholas without fear or anxiety. "You said I'm the first girl he brought here, to this island," I said, keeping my tone casual. "So what did he do with the others?"
