Talia's POV:

With each day that passed, my old life seemed to slip further and further away, fading into an area I didn't quite regret, known as the past.

When Nicholas was gone, I occupied myself by reading, swimming, hiking all around the island, and the occasional fishing expeditions with Louis. Nicholas brought us a large-screen TV with a DVD player and hundreds of movies, so Louis and I had something to do during rainy weather, too.

We were still not exactly friends, Louis and I, but we had definitely grown closer. Partially, I think she liked the fact that I no longer tried to escape. After my one failed attempt to bash her over the head—and the horrible incident with Jake that followed—I have become an obedient prisoner
