Subaru and kei began walking around the city looking around. As they were taking in the sights around them Kei noticed some people staring at them and giving them curious looks.
He chose to ignore them and focus on looking around.
"Hey, have you noticed some people looking at us funny?" Subaru asked.
"Yeah I know. But it's understandable really."
"Mmm? What do you mean?"
Kei wondered if this guy is using the right kind of common sense right now.
"Look at what they are wearing compared to us. You are wearing a tracksuit and I am wearing a suit a suit with silver accessories. We stand out like a sore thumb." He pointed out. "Not to mention that the people of this city probably don't know what plastic is. Which we are carrying along with some items that don't exist here. And not to mention that I am carrying a sword with a weird scabbard."
"To them I probably look like a noble with some weird taste on weapons. And you a weird street performer.
Subaru realize he was right and looked slightly worried.
"Don't worry I won't be mugged (Probably)."
"Hey what about me!" He asked concerned.
"Don't worry you won't be mugged as well." He reassured him.
"Really?" Subaru asked feeling slightly relieve
He nodded his head.
"Yes you won't have your items stolen. You would probably be assaulted instead."
Whatever relief subaru had on him immediately disappeared.
"That isn't reassuring at all!"
=========================================
They continued to sightseeing the medieval fantasy buildings minding their own business.
That is until a scream was heard on the streets. As gasps and shouts of worry erupted.
Both of them turned their attention towards the streets to see a boy on the ground holding his head as a carriage was heading his way.
Seeing this subaru got hyped.
"This is it! It's my turn!" He yelled out in excitement. "This must be the event where I produce my first magic!
Crouching down he extends his arm towards the child and yelled out trying to unleash his (Magic.) but nothing happened.
Fortunately the child was saved a knight before he got run over.
The crowd cheered the knight. Seeing that he didn't conjure magic. Subaru just sighed depressingly. Not noticing that kei was looking at him with a face filled with cringe.
=========================================
Luckily for Kei the crowd was too distracted with worry for the child to notice subaru's embarrassing display. Which fortunately meant that he didn't have to bury himself in a hole out of pure embarrassment at his actions.
They continued to walk around. He wasn't talking much do to still feeling embarrass with subaru.
Looking around he notice that they entered some market place. While subaru was still in thinking of his 'Magic'. He begins to examined the stalls to see if there is anything interesting. Finding one in particular he head towards it leaving subaru to his thoughts for a bit.
The stall had some daggers and knives on display. He looked down and examined the knives and daggers to check their design and was surprised.
"Hoho interested in these fine works aren't ya?" Looking up to see a woman wearing a red bandana in front of him.
"A little. They look interesting."
The woman smiled with pride.
"Ya got a good eye. These beauties are amazing. I would know I made them myself. Made of high quality metal and forged with a special method passed down by my family." The woman proudly explained.
She is not wrong they look like they are of high quality. But that wasn't what caught his interest No what caught his interest was the design.
The knives all had designs correlated to the east. There was even a tantō.
Picking up the blade he examines carefully.
The blade is sharp and quite durable. Definitely made with some sort of high quality metal close to steel.
"Are you perhaps from kararagi?" If he remembers correctly kararagi resembles japan quite a lot. Probably due to the influence from the sage or probably other isekaied people but who knows.
"Oh, you are quite knowledgeable." She said. "You are correct I originate from kararagi but moved here to show off the style of my country. And create a name for myself."
He nodded and place the tantō back. Digging into his coat he pulled out a knife. A combat knife to be exact.
"Can you give me your thoughts on this?" Flipping the blade up he showed the knife to her. The stall owner was surprise at the function but begins to appraise it, as she was examining the knife. There was a slight glint in her eyes when she examined it.
"I have never seen a knife like this before. The material is good and it's quite sharp. But the design… I have never seen such a design before." As she continues to examine the knife. He tapped the counter to get her attention.
Getting her attention away from the knife to him. He smiled.
"So how much do you think I can get from it?"
The stall owner blinked with confusion until realization hit her.
"Wait, are you planning on selling this?" She asked for confirmation from him.
"Yep." He confirmed "So how much can I get out of it?"
Getting out of her confusion she puts on a business face.
"Well I can't exactly be sure. But I can say that it can go for a high price. From the metal to the sharpness, plus with its unique design and the convenience of it, allows one to simply put it inside a pocket and pull it out immediately some collectors would want this." She explained.
"For the price I would say about 2 gold coins or so."
'2 gold coins… so equivalent to 200 silver coins or 2000 copper coins… I think'
(A/N: I have no idea how the currency works if you know please tell me so I can fix it.)
He won't be losing anything much that combat knife isn't exactly that expensive back in his world. Plus he has a better one in his coat.
"Good enough. So where can I sell it?" He asked.
She looked at him still with a business face on.
"Can you sell it to me?" She asked. "I am willing to pay double if you want."
At her suggestion he can figure out what she might do.
'For a knife that can be used in multiple scenarios. She might be planning to recreate it and sell it for a higher price. Or probably use it as an idea or inspiration for another of her work.'
He couldn't be sure but he does know that she would probably earn quite a lot with it either way. But he didn't care much about it.
"Sure I'll sell it to you for double the price."
She smiled and went to a box and took out 4 gold coins. Putting them in a small pouch she handed it to him.
Taking the poach he looks inside and checks if everything is there. Seeing that everything is cleared he pulls one gold coin out and hands it to her.
"Hmm? Why are you giving this back?" She asked confused.
"Can I ask of you to change it to 100 silver coins instead?"
Realizing what he wants she takes the gold coin and replaced it with a pouch of 100 silver coins.
Counting the coins to check if the amount is correct. He is satisfied with that that everything is there and leaves the knife with the owner.
"Get out of here! Don't interfere with my business!" An angry voice was heard. Looking towards where it came from he saw subaru being told to get lost by a familiar rough looking green haired man.
He sighed taking the pouch of gold coins and the bag of silver ones and hiding them in his coat. He went to the frustrated mans stall.
"Hey if have anymore of those knives let me examine them!" The knife stall owner yelled out. In response he just give a small wave.
"Yo. What seems to be the irritation." Both subaru and the green haired shop owner looked at him.
The green haired gave out an irritated sigh.
"Are you a friend of his?" He asked pointing to subaru.
"More of an acquaintance."
"Hey!" Subaru yelled out. But he just ignored him.
"So what seems to be the problem?" He asked again.
"Your friend here is interfering with my business." The man stated. He looked at subaru who could only laugh weakly.
He sighed and looked the products the man was selling.
'Appas huh. Apples sounds way better. Plus it don't confuse some people with a certain flying bison.' He quipped. Pulling out a silver coin he asked.
"How much for one?"
The man looked at him and sighed.
"At least one isn't broke." The man said. "25 copper coins for one."
"How many can I buy with one silver coin?" He asked wanting to confirm and find out the currency better.
"You'll get four with one silver coin." The man said. He felt relieve that his guise was right for the most part.
"I'll take 8." He said as he took out another silver coin.
The man smiled and took out a paper bag and placed the appas inside and handed them to him as. He then looked at subaru with a grumpy face.
"Don't have this noble acquaintance of yours pay for you okay you brat."
He just sighed as subaru grumbled.
.
.
.
Leaving the market he continue to gather info and sightsee.
"How did you even get the money. Aren't as broke as I am at the start?" subaru asked still somewhat grumpy.
"I just sold some stuff that I didn't need."
"Huh? What kind of items did you sell exactly?"
"Not telling you." He said as he ignored the rest of subaru's questions and rant.
As subaru continues to rant and try to make him explain he didn't exactly pay attention to where he was going. And that 'Where' was apparently the women's bathroom.
Screams and a slap resounded as he just looked on with a blank look. As subaru's faces swell with a paw print on his cheek.
'This is going to be a long Arc.'
