Director Cou had much to do and little time to spare, although still dark, everyone but the pampered ones would rise to prepare for another dull day. That is what Director Cou wished for, a dull day. Something he strived for, yet remained out of reach.
She came half dragged into his quarters, there was no sign of struggle just a pile of limbs that had given up on living. The moment Cou laid eyes on her, an assumption of the worst was made. He stood enraged to face the guard that had caused him a great deal of nuisance yesterday afternoon.
"Was one not good enough for you?! Bringing another before the lights first rays is not looking good for you, maybe a good whipping and a consultation with General Xia would do you some good." he stated, a firm tone making Jun feel intimidated.
Lowering his being to the ground to show a kneel, Jun dared not look up, instead concentrating on his grasp of the girl's tanned skin. "Do what you must, Director Cou. However, please let me explain the situation before any hasty decisions are committed."
A long pause overtook the room, with a pout appearing on Cou's features, crossing his arms and waiting for Jun to continue. Gracing Cou with a quick glance, Jun hastily resumed. "...She was found out in the fields, I do not know if you caught wind of the situation revolving the military boy that escaped?....well we found him from her amateur manner of covering for him. I thought it would be best if you did what you must to her since you wanted to handle those close to her age range....?"
Director Cou cleared his throat, losing his composure into a hint of surprise at the thought of this young mixed blood stumbling upon a military boy. Deciding to question her alone, he nodded towards Jun commanding him to look him in the eyes "You may leave, although I am curious as to the punishment the boy will receive?"
"I believe Zhang, the leader of our division, is currently giving him a whipping. I will take my leave, expect me back in the light of the morning with the girls." Jun said, leaving to attend to the field slaves that will soon arrive to the field.
Shu was left alone with Director Cou. She would've been quite frightened if she had been in the right state of mind, yet all of her thoughts were focused on Altan and the words Zhang had produced that echoed across her mind.
"Did he force you to lead the guards away from his trail?"
That voice, that question, it was unfamiliar. She felt no need to move, thus she just sat on the floor dazed out from the reality that made her feel like a puppet.
"I asked you a question, girl. Did he force you?" the voice restated much more firmer than it once had been.
This time she cleared her mind, trying to pierce together the words of the person that spoke out to her.
"No." she said, making more sense of the situation.
"Speak louder, girl! Did he force you?" Director Cou asked, his patience wearing thin from the long pauses.
"No, he didn't. I chose to protect him."
He heard her, more clearly than before, as he gazed at her he noticed the steely grey eyes that had cleared from it's once clouded gaze. Looking at her more attentively, he grinned.
