  Memory

  The shift of the mattress beneath another body woke Yelena. She opened her eyes and felt her heart leap for moonlight spilled into the room from a shutter pushed wide in order to enable Sylvin to climb in through the window.

  She pushed up, and wrapped her arms around his neck, leaning her face between his shoulder blades, and felt his hand close over her crossed wrists. His lips grazed the inside of her wrist as he bowed his chin to his chest.

  “It has been over a month,” she complained. She did not have his ability to see in the dark, but she could feel that he was bigger, his body bulking into his height, muscles developed and hard. A man, now, she thought, not a boy, as she was a woman grown at eighteen.
