  Yelena swallowed heavily, her longing for her home pulling at her heart. But it would not be the same, she acknowledged. She would no longer be Sylvin’s wife waiting for his return, his lover waiting for his touch. Life was far more complex now.

  “Yes,” she said, her voice thick. “Take the boys to Elliard.”

  “Yelena,” Greshyn said softly, turning and taking her by the elbow, his desire and longing naked in his eyes. “Come with us. This court is… twisted, tainted, dark and dangerous. You are far too pure for these people, this place. You belong in the flowering fields of Elliard with the sunlight in your hair and children’s laughter around you.”

  Her hands flew to her face as she sobbed in a breath, the tears overwhelming. “I wish…”
