General Elias was stunned when he heard the words that Prince Nicien just said!
The Princess will be coming to the camp with them today? Did he hear it wrong?
Standing still before the desk in the Prince's chamber, the flustered General was snapped out of his thoughts by the Prince who spoke up again.
"Go and check on her. I bet she will be ready by now."
General Elias wondered why the Prince just wouldn't go there himself. Then he was reminded of how the same Prince even skipped breakfast, perhaps to avoid the Princess.
What's the use of that if Princess Rizelle was to come with them and spend the whole day in the camp? Maybe his Master lost some of his intelligence when it came to women!
Nevertheless, General Elias knew better than to complain or even speak about it. "Yes, Your Highness," was all he said before he bowed and made his way to the Princess's chamber.
Once the guards in the Princess's chamber informed the latter about him, the General walked inside the chamber and halted a few steps away from the Princess who was also standing. When Princess Rizelle turned to look at his face, he noticed the confusion on her face and he realized that he had never greeted her formally before this. Then he quickly got down on one knee to show his respect.
"Greetings, Your Highness. I'm General Elias Gylaw from the Vamieres Army. It's an honor to meet you."
The Linolian Princess didn't say anything but Elias could feel her gaze on him. Though he had his gaze on the floor the whole time, he was debating if he should be speaking up again. Then he finally heard her voice, but...
"Is your Prince sending you here so that he can avoid me?"
He was too taken aback that he ended up lifting his head to look at the Princess. However, he was very quick to lower it again when he accidentally met her gaze.
Was she always this honest? The thought and the question rendered the General tight-lipped!
A few seconds but silence was what still occupied the chamber. It was only then that the General realized the Princess was waiting for his response. He quickly thought of how to answer her.
"No, Your Highness," he said and continued, "His Highness will leave for the camp with us. I only come here to check if you're ready. I apologize."
With her conversation with the Prince from last night crossing her mind, Rizelle Vamieres slowly nodded her head several times yet her expression still hinted at doubt. "Are you the Prince's right hand?" She asked the General who was still on his knee.
She knew that it was because she hadn't given him any command to rise but... she didn't plan to do it soon. Maybe because she knew the purpose of the General's master, her husband.
"Yes, Your Highness," was General Elias's response and Rizelle could feel his curiosity through that.
"That means I can't trust everything you say," Rizelle Vamieres commented with a small yet menacing smile on her face.
Seeing the familiar smile, Fina who was quietly standing a few steps away from the Princess realized that the latter was back to her usual cheerful yet menacing nature. She thought that being in a foreign kingdom, the Princess would need some time to regain her carefree personality but...
What did Prince Nicien do to bring out this side of her? On top of that, it was very quick!
General Elias Gylaw found himself in a dilemma when he heard the Princess's remark! Of course, he should feel the pressure. After all, he knew the Prince very well and he was the only one who knew all his secrets.
"I swear upon my life that you can trust me, Your Highness," he uttered after struggling to respond for a while. "I serve the Prince and Your Highness is his wife now. I'm ought to show you the same respect and devotion that I've shown His Highness until now."
Princess Rizelle took a seat on one of the couches and she didn't even seem to take interest in whatever the General was saying. Then once again, she looked at the General and rhetorically asked, "By serving the Prince, you mean... filling up for him when he wishes to avoid me?"
General Elias wasn't truly prepared for this! He only went there to check if the Princess was ready but... he didn't see this coming at all!
Well, he knew that the Prince was avoiding the Princess but he didn't expect the Princess of Linolia to be this straightforward and... menacing.
Maybe his Prince really met his match.
But what's the use of that while he was the one suffering for it?! Even now, he can't come up with words to say while the Princess still had her gaze fixated on him, firmly!
Thankfully, the door was opened and it was Prince Nicien who walked inside.
"I know that you're disappointed in me, but... " Nicien Vamieres paused as he narrowed his eyes at his right-hand man. "You don't have to take it out on Elias."
"Then you should have come here yourself," Princess Rizelle simply responded to her husband. Looking up at him who was standing, her face was surprisingly calm.
Nicien Vamieres observed his wife before he narrowed his eyes and let out a breath. "Go and get the preparations done, Elias. We will leave shortly."
With the command given, Elias Gylaw rose to his feet and bowed before he walked out of the chamber without saying anything. Reading the situation, Fina followed him out right away.
Once again, silence fell upon the chamber as the Princess simply sat still without even looking at her husband who was still standing in his place. Then after what felt like hours, Nicien Vamieres spoke up.
"I'm sorry if I upset you, Princess. But I don't -"
"I was only playing around a little because I'm a bit disappointed," Rizelle interrupted while rising from her seat. She then approached the Prince and stood before him with a little yet unreadable smile on her face. "Don't take it to heart, Your Highness."
He tried to speak up but...
"Let's go. It's getting late," Princess Rizelle suddenly said with an exciting smile on her face. Then she left the chamber without even giving him the chance to say anything.
All Nicien Vamieres could do was stare at her until she was out of his sight.
Why was she so unpredictable since yesterday?
