Marauding Terror

Thud. Thud. Thud.

The ground shook as Maximiler maneuvered his mech through the forests of the testing ground. The mech moved fairly quickly, and its speed was around the top of its weight class.

The weight class of mechs were divided mainly into three classes. The light weight class, the medium weight class, and the heavy weight class.

The light weight class consisted of mechs that excelled greatly at maneuver warfare. They moved at extremely quick paces, and mostly featured light armor that did not weigh them down.

The medium weight class was the sweet spot of the mech weight class. The mechs that fell into this class did not move too quickly, or too slowly. Their armor coverage was also quite impressive, and they could take quite a few hits before succumbing.

The heavy weight class on the other hand was the damage sponge, but also the heavy hitter of the mechs. The mechs that fell into this weight class mostly had an impressive amount of armor stacked onto their bodies. Not only that, but because of their sizes, some models of mechs in this class usually packed enough weapons and ammunition to be able to singlehandedly level an entire city in just an hour or even less!

The mech that Maximiler was piloting fell into the medium weight class range. It was on the lighter end of the class, but its armor was good enough to withstand more than a few hits.

In its hands, two small energy pulse submachine guns were firmly held. The guns were connected to the energy transmission system of the mech, and were able to fire out rapid shots of compressed energy.

Maximiler's task in this round of exercise was to locate and destroy the dozen other mechs that were located within the forest. He had no way of communicating with them, but they could effectively communicate with each other in order to create a new that could possibly corner his mech.

Overall, this initial test was one that was meant to determine multiple elements of the mech. Its censor abilities, its ability to withstand damage while under fire from multiple enemies, and its endurance.

Maximiler was not new to mechs and mech battles. Although it had been a long time since he last piloted a mech, he was still a very knowledgeable commander, and he knew that the chances of the mechs convening to team up and attack him was quite high.

"Let's see how good this mech is, then."

Maximiler spurred his mech on as its speed increased by a noticeable margin. He turned to the north-east and began heading in that direction, following the map that was blinking in the upper left corner of the view screen.

Officer Marcelo was just a simple mech officer under the employment of the larger Nendi Research Institute. His performance had never stood out, and he had gotten to where he was through a steady, constant working habit, where he managed to amass a considerable amount of merit. Just enough to get his superiors to notice him and his deeds. That had granted him what he needed for his promotion.

Marcelo was not an elite mech pilot or anything, but he was good. Good enough to be selected in order to test the latest prototype that had just been designed by the institute's mech designers. It was a big matter, as this new mech model was supposed to revolutionize the private military that was owned by the research institute. If it lived up to expectations, then the institute's military would be a step closer to the planet's own military! This was an incredible thing!

Right now, Marcelo was on his way to rendezvous with the five other mechs that had been placed on different parts of the field. They had intentionally been made to emerge from different points in order to give both themselves, and the actual pilot of the prototype machine more choices to pick from.

All of a sudden, Marcelo's sensors picked up a quickly approaching object in the distance. The object was rapidly closing the distance between them, surprising him. At the moment, he was in a large clearing, and was not surrounded by trees. It would still take some time before he was able to move into the forest area.

"Crap. Seems that Hayde found me." Marcelo swore raising his own weapon. A generic one handed mech sword was drawn from the holster on the side of the machine.

Hayde was the name of the mech pilot who was supposed to pilot the prototype mech. He was also an officer, although he had been one for much longer than Marcelo, and he had more experience with piloting marauder mech types.

Pop! Pop! Pop!

Before Marcelo could even think, several high speed energy rounds slammed into the frontal armor of his mech! While the rounds were not particularly powerful, they contained a lot of energy, which translated to a lot of heat. The area that had been hit by the rounds already bore dark craters of partially melted metal!

"Strong!" That was the only word that came to mind upon inspecting the damage that was done from just a few rounds of the marauder's weapon. It then dawned on Marcelo that not only the mech, but also its weapon system was being tested!

He immediately ducked for cover behind a boulder. The boulder was large, but not large enough to hide a fifteen meter tall mech! Before he could get to cover, several more high speed impacts collided with his mech frame, scarring it even further.

"Dammit, I need assistance over here. Hayde has found me, and he seems intent on taking me down!" Marcelo spoke into the transmission channel that he used to communicate with the other mech pilots on his side, before bursting out of his cover and rushing to the last spot that shots had come out from.

He made a beeline for the tree line where the shots were coming from. He was going to engage Maximiler in close combat!
