Many people were in and out of the building. Those who entered looked full of enthusiasm in full gear while those who came out looked sluggish, some covered in wounds.
There is no fee to enter the building, but people have to queue for quite a while.
Within the building, there was a black spatial vortex. It was big and kept turning like a top.
Arthur queued for about 15 minutes before it was his turn to enter. He had gone to the Desolate Land several times with the school teacher, so he had no qualms the moment he stepped into the portal.
For about 30 seconds, he saw nothing.
After that, the surrounding aura changed, the air seemed denser and gravity also felt heavier.
He found himself appearing on a stone platform in the middle of the city.
"Get out of here quickly," shouted a guard in military uniform as he just had a vision.
Arthur and the people who entered with him quickly left.
The city is full of old buildings that still look solid, they are neatly structured, each area seems to have its own characteristics.
It's called Marlow City, it's about five times the size of San Diego.
In addition to the portal that connects to San Diego, the city also has several other portals that connect to other cities around the world, so in this city, there are different types of people.
"Desolate Land huh."
Suddenly Jean appeared by Arthur's side, she looked at the city and sighed.
Arthur knew that only he could see her, even though he wanted to talk to her, he chose not to because there were few people around him.
However, after that Arthur suddenly felt something enter his head. He then heard Jean's voice inside his head.
"You can talk to me through your mind," she said.
"This is a voice transmission."
On earth, only those mighty creatures could speak using voice transmission.
"Would you like to ask a question?"
Arthur thought for a while before nodding.
"Do you know about this world, sister Jean?"
"I think I know a lot of things in this world, basically, it's a ruined world, nothing more. To be sure, it's vast."
"Why is this world destroyed?"
"Well, that's a tough question to answer, there is eternal life, but no one can escape destruction because that is also part of life."
She didn't seem to want to answer, so Arthur changed the question.
"Then why isn't technology working here?"
The digital watch in his hand was now dead, it was no longer possible to see his stats unless he returned to earth. Perhaps in special places like dungeons, it was still acceptable, but this world itself, even though it had been destroyed, the remnants of its modern civilization were still clearly visible.
Jean looked at the digital watch, she laughed softly.
"The laws in this world are different from the laws in your world, so only spiritual artifacts work here," she replied.
A silver necklace then appeared in her hand.
Sh handed it to him and said, "You can see your stats with this. You also don't have to give names to unknowns anymore because these have recorded everything I know."
Arthur curiously took the necklace, he put it around his neck only to be immediately taken aback.
He saw a transparent virtual screen appear before his eyes, and it displayed his complete stats.
"With that, you don't have to look at your hand all the time, just command it with your mind to turn it off," said Jean.
"This is a spiritual artifact, it turns out that it also has this kind of function."
On earth, knowledge of how to make spiritual artifacts/weapons is still minimal, 99% of spiritual artifacts/weapons on earth today are relics of this world. Because not everyone is lucky enough to get it, so most people can only use alloy weapons.
"Will you be able to teach me to make artifacts like this later, sister Jean?" Arthur asked.
"That's easy, but increase your strength first. Making spiritual artifacts/weapons also requires strength."
"Yes." Arthur nodded.
Thinking of selling spiritual artifacts/weapons made his eyes shine.
He then arrived at a place full of carriages where several people shouted offering rides at a low cost.
The city was vast and dungeon entrances were mostly on the outskirts of the city, walking to go there was naturally tiring.
Arthur paid 3 dollars to get into a carriage the size of a bus, it had five giant birds pulling it. Once the passengers were full, the birds flew into the sky, pulling the carriage into the air.
In the carriage, he saw several young people, they were only slightly older than him. Judging from their clothes, it was clear that they came from a poor family.
Some in groups, some alone like him, those alone looking nervous and worried.
On the outskirts of the city before the wall is a small forest. Around the forest there were many people gathered, all of them carrying weapons, some fighting over petty things.
The carriage then descended there.
After it landed, Arthur quickly descended.
He saw several people observing the people who had just arrived, they seemed to be looking for members to recruit.
Arthur had not walked ten steps, a short, bald-headed man suddenly approached him.
"Hey boy, this must be your first time coming here right?" he said.
Arthur simply nodded in response.
"Are you looking for a team? My team happened to be looking for someone to be a carrier, it's a suitable job for a beginner like you. Rest assured, even though we are only a small team, we are reliable, no one has ever died following our team, you can ask the people here."
He smiled as if he wanted to make hin feel comfortable.
He, on the other hand, pretended to think and observed it, after a while, only then did he nod.
"Okay..."
He didn't plan on refusing in the first place, and of course, he joined the team as well just so he wouldn't have any trouble entering the dungeon. Most dungeons were owned by guilds, some guilds allowed outsiders to enter but they had to pay.
The team that recruited members was usually fully prepared to enter the dungeon, so he no longer had to pay or take care of any troublesome matters.
The bald man smiled wider after hearing his answer.
"By the way, my name is Baxter, what's yours?"
"Arthur."
"Okay Arthur, my team is waiting in front of the dungeon portal, follow me!"
They entered the small forest, after about 50 meters, they arrived at a fairly open area.
There, there was a small portal, it was yellow, indicating that it was a level 1 dungeon portal.
In addition to the boss, the highest level of monsters in level 1 dungeons are only level 10 monsters, most of them are just ordinary monsters, their combat power is also not very strong, usually it is not too difficult to escape from them. But only people at level 10 and below could enter.
When Arthur and Baxter got there, two people came up to them. One was a slightly chubby man with a large sword on his back and the other was a thin man with glasses.
"This is Egan and this is Elrick, this is Arthur, I thought he was reliable, so I chose him," said Baxter.
Egan, the fat man looked Arthur up and down.
He nodded and said, "not bad."
He then handed the three large bags he was carrying to Arthur. Apart from a few bottles of drink, an alloy knife, and a traditional torch, there was nothing in the bags, so they were quite light. Important things like potions were brought by them.
"Your job is to retrieve the vital parts from the bodies of the monsters we killed, you should have studied at school, so I won't say anymore. For wages, we will pay you according to the market price for beginners, how about it?"
"No problem," Arthur nodded. He hung the bags on his back, making him look like a ninja turtle.
"We're also just small adventurers, so don't expect much, safety is our top priority. Alright, let's go in!"
They approached the portal, there were several other teams that entered first, most of the teams seemed to be stronger than their team.
Egan and the others casually walked in, Arthur was the last one, he clenched his fists.
He was a little nervous, but when Jean who was standing by his side patted him on the shoulder, he quickly calmed down.
The scenery in front of him changed.
It was a crypt whose walls were formed of stone. There were several passages and each passage was so dark that Arthur couldn't see anything.
Each team chose one passage, Egan and the others discussed briefly before choosing a rather narrow passage.
"Light the torch," Egan said to Arthur as they entered the passage.
The torch has a fairly large fire, its light radiates up to 20 meters.
The passage they entered was swooping down, it was a little wet and there were a lot of tree roots around.
Whooss... Whooss... Whooss...
Suddenly a flock of bats slid from inside, they were almost the size of a chicken, their screams sounded painful.
"Let me," Baxter said, jumping forward.
He was carrying nothing, but his hands emitted wind which then condensed into ten boomerangs. They circled before attacking the bats.
Even though they are large in size, they don't have any special skills.
Baxter's faster boomerangs easily sliced through their bodies.
"No need to collect their bodies, let's go." Egan kicked the pieces of the bats' bodies before quickening his pace.
A while later, they arrived at a more spacious crypt, there were several trees there. In front of them, there was a small swamp.
They stopped not far from the swamp.
Egan picked up a sizable rock and threw it into the swamp.
"Well, there should be some crocodiles here," he said.
Right after he said that, two crocodiles suddenly jumped from the swamp, they were big and their eyes were bloodshot. They landed on the side of the swamp and charged straight at Egan who had thrown the rock.
"Take a position," said Egan.
He gripped the hilt of his sword while Baxter leapt forward first. The wind that radiates on his body allows him to move fast and jump high.
Elrick, on the other hand, retreated backwards. "Take care of me," he said to Arthur.
He straightened the hilt of his glasses while his mouth mumbled something. After that, his body suddenly emitted a green light.
Two balls of green light flew from his body towards Egan and Baxter. They enveloped their bodies, their strength seemed to have drastically increased from being enveloped by that light.
Arthur estimated they were at level 5, which could be said to be the group on the lowest rung of the ladder.
The fight quickly started, Egan and Baxter clearly had the upper hand, they managed to injure the crocodiles in their first attack, probably because of the buff that Elrick provided.
