Chapter 45: A Thundering of Paws

Eleonore’s POV

“You need to give me your permission,” Bastian told me as he held onto my hands. I shot him a confused look and he continued to elaborate. “The spell will only work, like most partnered magic, if both parties are in agreement.”

He continued. “Dad taught you this, remember?”

I nodded my head in agreement. Ronan had told me the basics of magic, both to protect me and to bring me out from the dark. I knew enough to keep myself safe. So I dug deep into that part of me that usually slept, and tried to pull at it.

Ronan had said humans were inherent with magic, yet for the general population, it was dug too deep to ever be able to reach it. With mages, who had their magic at a higher level than the ordinary, it was easy for them. I tugged, and dug, and offered my permission to Bastian.

He was speaking ancient words slowly.
