Kara continued walking, her feet hurting. Her mind continuing to be pursued by the questions she wanted to ask her father. But she refused. She couldn't bring herself to trust him enough and expect the truth. But he has been so persistent. Asking her questions so that he could learn more about her. His last offer to have her vent to him about what happened to her in the prison was something she wished she could take him up on. But she knew better.
" It doesn't matter" She finally responds to her father who seemed overjoyed to finally hear her voice again.
" It does matter..you went through some heavy stuff I'd imagine " Kalivare kept his focus foward.
" Well what did you go through?" Kara inquired, wanting to get the attention off of herself.
" Well, I saw your mother. I saw my parents. I saw Gabriel's parents. All telling me what a fool I had been " he answered, his happy expression replaced with a more saddened one.
"You saw Gabriel's parents? " Kara was surprised. She had also seen his parents and found it interesting that he would've seen them. It made sense after thinking about it for a while though. Her parents and Gabriel's parents were friends at some point. Of course they would come to him.
" Yes..and they told me that I was a fool. But that they also wanted me to stay strong and keep fighting for my life. That someday, I would escape this horrible place" he continues.
" After a few years, I stopped believing them though. I had given up hope. I didn't think I'd ever get out of there. That was until you came along and gave me the chance to escape " Kalivare explains and then turns to Kara.
" How did you break out, if you don't mind me asking? " he was happy to be able to have an actual conversation with his long lost daughter even though he had his own questions.
" I don't really know. I just felt that Gabriel was in trouble and I had to get to him. I felt that If I didnt..he would die. I had ti be with him. I had to see him " Kara confesses, staring at the endless desert ahead.
" That is strange..but I guess it makes sense. They had said something like that might happen " He chuckles which makes Kara turn her attention to him.
" What do you mean? Who told you? " Kara now felt less hesitant and wanted to know what he had to offer when it came to Gabriel.
" When I was trapped, Gabriel's parents informed me of you and Gabriel's bond. They told me that you two were going to save the Underworld. All of the world's. Which is something I had always believed inside of myself. But.." He stops walking and turns to Kara. " They also mentioned that you two were destined mates.." he answered with a more serious tone.
" Mates.." Kara remembered the term ' Mates' having come up before but she didn't know much about it. She assumed it meant or had something to do with marriage. And Kalivare could sense her confusion.
" Well, mating works differently for all the species but also constrains them. For the Vampires, we share our blood with one another. Our bond is strengthened and we are inoperable. But when one goes into a blood lust, our mate will as well" he explains as Kara listens intently.
" Where as the Lycans have alot more that goes into it. For us Vampires, we can have sex as much as we want..but also have a different mate. If our mate dies, we can choose another. Lycans, they mate for life. Literally "
Kara thinks about Gabriel again, shifting her eyes over to him.
" Lycans, they only take on one mate. And they only have sex with that one mate. They also share in blood to claim a mate but that is only the first part to it " he continues.
" They next step, is that they actually have the process of sex. The reason for this, is because they are mixing their scents with one another. Making it easier for them to find one another. Once this had been done, it can't be undone. It can't be washed clean. For Lycans, one of their most powerful assets is their sense of smell. But when they have a mate and they perform the process, they are able to not only find one another easier but they are also marking them as their own. Other Lycans will not touch another's mate" after his explination, Kara can't help but think of what Raven had said before. Gabriel had the opportunity to have a mate. He could have had Victoria but he didn't want her. He turned her down. Because he wanted to be with her. He wanted to give himself to her and for her to give herself to him. Forever. It was romantic, sweet and a gesture that she would have never expected from Gabriel.
" That doesn't explain things though..me and Gabriel never mated " Kara answers, feeling even more horrible that she had walked away from him.
" Really? " Kalivare asked, being puzzled as to why that had not happened yet. " But you two were suppose to - " Kara interrupts him. " We didn't get the chance. Alot of things have been complicated.." She didn't want to go into it but Kalivare pushed for an answer again and she knew she would have to relent if she ever wanted him to cease his chattering.
She explained everything that had happened between her and Gabriel to the best of her ability. It was a long winded expkinatiin and one that both left her even more hurt and upset at the memories of the things she could not change.
" I'm sorry...I didn't know " Kalivare says in a quiet tone. " Its fine. It doesn't matter now.." Kara wipes the tears from her eyes as they continue on their journey.
" We will find a way to bring him back Kara. I promise you this. We will find a way to bring him back. I will fix this " Kalivare promises Kara who drifts away slowly back into her silent treatment.
