Chapter 28: You're Coming With Me

“Hey, what’s wrong?” Dana asked, cocking her head at me.

“Nothing,” I said curtly.

“I know you’re lying,” she said with a knowing look.

“It’s nothing. We should go,” I said, noticing the crowds of people starting to disperse and make their way back home.

Nodding, she followed me through the crowd. I kept an eye out in hopes to run into Abel but came up empty. He said he’d find me but he must’ve forgotten.

“Okay, what’s wrong? Seriously,” Dana said, a serious look in her eye.

“It’s nothing. The story. It just-”

“Was it the part about the hybrids?” She asked, reading right through me.

I nodded.

“Don’t worry. That’s not going to happen to you.”

“That’s not it. It never should have happened in the first place,” I snapped, feeling guilty immediately once I noticed the hurt look in her gaze.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean-” I started to apologize.

“No. You’re right to be angry. It wasn’t right.”
