Chapter 8: Finding Home

Kinley

It was a beautiful spring day in Manhattan. Spring was one of Kinley’s favorite seasons. When she was a little girl, her mom would always take her to the local flower shop to buy bulbs to plant for the upcoming summer. They would get daisies, lilies, and roses. Those were her mom's favorites. Lilacs were Kinley's. One spring her mom let her plant a lilac bush. That thing still blooms every year in the back corner of her parents' yard. It's always the first thing she would smell when she entered the dining room. Her dad always had the window open and the breeze would hit her nose just right. That smell will always be connected to her heart. Kinley missed her mom so much.

Kinley turned on the TV to get some background noise. The quiet gets to be too much sometimes. Especially when she is in her head with thoughts of her mom. Those thoughts were interrupted by the text notification on her phone.
