When the demons launched themselves at us, I put out my arms and hands and I tried to think of how to use my powers consciously.
If something happened, I wasn’t quite sure, but the demons seemed to avoid me, and they rushed straight for Ivan.
I spotted Volkova, and I saw her run over the debris and the ruins, down towards the woods. I knew I needed to stay and help Ivan and Valeria, if she was still alive, but I also knew that I needed to face off Volkova on my own. That was her whole plan all along.
I hesitated; I am not going to lie. But then I was comforted by the fact that Ivan was, after all, a vampire, and therefore immortal. The demons might injure him, but they couldn’t kill him.
I wasn’t sure if that was quite true, but I needed to believe it.
And then I ran after Volkova.
