Let Me In

Instinctively, I pressed my body against the door as though that would stop someone from forcing their way in. The bolt was locked, but I checked it anyway.

“Gabby, are you okay? It’s me.” I heard Hikaru’s voice on the other side of the door.

“Did you do it?” I shouted through the door. “I didn’t do anything, I would never be unloyal, he was just talking to me. I don’t understand why you guys would do something like this!”

I couldn’t help but start sobbing at the situation, terrified. Why were they here? What if they were angry and thought I was cheating on them?

“Gabby,” They spoke frankly through the door, but didn’t shout. “I’m not sure what’s going on, but I’ve been at the compound all day. I’ll leave if you want, but I can tell you’re really upset.”

I couldn’t stop sobbing; my shaky hands were pressed firmly against the door as I convinced myself that would keep me safe. “I can’t believe I trusted you,” I said weakly.
