Mateus awoke slowly, feeling quite surprised. After falling from such a height, he expected to be a pancake. Instead, he was covered in aches and pains, with small rips in his clothes and skin, but otherwise fine.
Blinking away the brightness, Mateus found himself lying in a large nest, sitting on the ground in a hidden rocky cleft. The light was bright and golden, meaning he must have slept for hours.
Looking up, he finally saw the Avian that had brought him here. The feathers were thick and shone metallic red, while the size of the bird was as large as a car, to fly its wingspan had to be at least 30 meters! The eyes were sharp with intelligence, and the long beak was tipped with a vicious hook. A crown-like crest proclaimed this being a monarch of the skies, and no one would dare contest the fact. Fixing it's eyes upon him, the avian spoke.
"You are awake? Good. I am the Guardian of the Mountain Nursery. The parents have come to collect their offspring long ago. The young that remain here are orphans, and cannot survive in these wilds. Choose your companion." The sharp, fierce bird ordered, and Mateus was shocked to find it was a female.
"Can I choose more than one companion?" He asked timidly.
"If you are capable of it, then so be it. Now go." The Sky Queen ordered, and he leaped up swiftly to comply.
Walking slowly through the cleft, Mateus saw many odd Spirit Beasts, all of which were very young. Avians, arachnids, lizards and beasts played together in innocent harmony, oblivious to their future strife.
So many rare, powerful beasts were in Mateus' view, and contracting them would grant many fantastic abilities. However, they were not Angora, so him walked on by.
Then, in the corner of his eye, Mateus saw a flash of that distinctive, curly fur! Nearly running, he rushed between the bushes, and saw exactly what he had been looking for.
The creature was a moderate size, and it was easy to identify the species. These Beasts had a hopelessly complicated name, but Mateus called them Roobits as a tribute to his former life. A Roobit was a beast that looked like what you'd get if an enormous rabbit fooled around with a kangaroo. Large as a red kangaroo, with the classic hind legs and long tail for hopping, but the front paws and head are those of a rabbit. Further, they have no pouches, and the extra large, distinctive rabbit ears. They are herbivores, and can cross long distances at high speeds without rest. Shy, intelligent, wary of humans - the Roobit is a classic prey animal that grants almost no abilities in a contract.
But this one is an Angora, the only one Mateus had ever seen in the flesh, and for his future with his sister, he had to contract it.
