Prologue pt. 2

"Oh, my god." Aiden muttered. He looked up at Ariel and she could see that he was crying.

"My mother's alive?"

"Yes. She's still holding on. That's where I go every day, I don't go to visit her grave, I go to speak to her."

"W-where is she?" Aiden asked quietly, his voice breaking Ariel's heart. She sighed.

"She's in that old gym at the bottom of the garden, it's being treated as a mini hospital. There are live-in doctors there, the ones who've always made sure your okay when you're ill."

"But why..." Aiden muttered, causing Ariel to sigh again. He looked up at her, the confusion in his face evident. "Why does everyone make such a big deal when I'm ill?"

Ariel gasped and jumped up, then sat down again. Aiden giggled.

"Why..."

"I don't even know." Ariel laughed, getting comfortable on the floor again. She sighed and brought Aiden in for a hug. "Listen, Aid. This is not easy to say...at all."

"What?" Aiden said fearfully, he looked up at his sister and sighed. "Oh..."

"Yeah," Ariel sighed, fresh tears sliding down her shining cheeks. She let out a small laugh as Aiden hugged her again, then a few sobs escaped. "Because of you being ill after you were born, you're...slightly weaker than other boys your age. It's why I'm always worrying about you in PE, it's why you break your bones so easily, it's why you always fall over."

"So by 'slightly', you mean extremely." Aiden pointed out, causing Ariel to chuckle sadly. She nodded.

"Yeah,"

"Great," her brother muttered, leaning against the wall and sighing. Ariel smiled sadly and opened her mouth to talk again, however before she could talk there was the sound of glass breaking from the corridor. Aiden gasped and leapt towards Ariel, leaning into her embrace as they both started shaking.

After a few seconds, there was another crash and more glass hit the floor. There was a BANG as something hit Ariel's bedroom door, the two of them screamed and Ariel shoved her brother under her bed. By now they were both crying, and Aiden had gone a deathly shade of white. Ariel had lost her breath and was slightly pale.

"Wait here," she muttered. Aiden shook his head.

"No. I'm not letting you go alone, I'm coming too."

"Aiden it could be dangerous. I think people are breaking in, they might be loaded. Stay. Here."

"But-"

"STAY HERE AID!" She whisper-yelled, Aiden jumped back and she sighed, resting her hand on her brothers shoulder. "I'm sorry, I just-with your bone strength deficiency, that's what it's called by the way, or sometimes BSD, you're more likely to die."

"Well that's just great!" Aiden muttered under his breath. Ariel chuckled again and slowly walked towards the door. She rested her hand on the round, black doorknob and turned.

"If mum wakes up," she muttered. "Tell her I love her, and I miss her every day,"

"Ari-"

At this, she walked out the door, stopping in the doorway. She whispered into the moaning wind, without looking back,

"I love you Aiden Aaron Andrews, you're the best brother I could ever hope for."

Then, she was gone.

———

Three minutes later, Aiden rolled out from under the bed and leapt up.

'No, Ariel.' He thought nervously, speed-walking to the door. 'I'm not just going to sit here while you're off being killed. Or worse...'

He quickly opened the door and crept down the corridor, looking desperately for his sister.

"Ariel! Ariel! Ari where are you?"

He was too caught up in yelling, he didn't realise he was in his father's corridor, and Aiden screamed as he felt a pair of large, hairy hands clamp down on his shoulder.

"Jesus." His father, Damon, leapt back, clutching his ears, then suddenly charged forwards and pinned Aiden against the wall. "Boy, what're you doing out here this early in the morning, and why you calling your sister's name?"

"Sh-she-w-we heard broken glass, and v-voices. A-Ari went to investigate it. I don't know w-where she is." Aiden trembled, tears streaming down his pale cheeks. There was a click and Aiden let out another scream as his father pressed down on his shoulders.

"Father! Arghhh, you just dislocated my shoulder!"

His father stepped back.

"Right...I forgot about that..." he muttered. Aiden sighed and held his breath, waiting for him to just walk off. What he didn't expect, however, was to feel his fathers arms wrap around him, and to feel his father sobbing into his shoulder.

"Fathe-"

Damon suddenly jumped, as if being woken from a trance, and patted Aiden on the shoulder.

"Find my little girl, Aids. Find her, so I can apologise to you both together. Please, find her."

With that, he stalked off down the corridor, leaving Aiden standing there, stunned.

"What the fuck just happened?"

"Language, Aid." A voice echoed down the corridor. Aiden grinned and started running towards the voice, ignoring the whispers of 'no, don't!' that were flooding down the pearl-white corridor.

He ran around the corner, and stopped...

Ariel was there...being held at gun point by a woman with long, black and white hair. She was wearing a short red dress with brown jeans and a navy denim jacket. There was a man holding her, he was wearing a long black T-shirt, navy jeans, a red jacket and he had white hair with a strip of black in the front.

His sister saw him and used her hand to signal the word, go, so Aiden hid around the corner, poking his head around to see his sister. He hit his dislocated shoulder on the wall and bit his lip, however a small groan escaped and the people holding Ariel turned.

She was struggling, trying to break free, but the man holding her wouldn't let her.

"Who are you?" Ariel whispered, staring determinedly at the black-and-white haired woman. She laughed an Ariel pointed at her wrist, looking at Aiden. He understood her coded message and immediately pulled out his phones, voice recording with one and videoing with the other.

"I, my darling, am Cruella Mad Evil, named after the best Disney villain ever."

"Ah, crap." Ariel muttered, fear evident on her face. Cruella laughed again and the man coughed, letting go of Ariel. She sighed.

"Oh right, right. This is my brother Cooper, named after a chicken in our old home."

"O-kay?" Ariel muttered, stepping backwards. Cooper grabbed her again and she screamed, which caused Cruella to point the gun at the corner...directly where Aiden was standing.

"Come out boy."

Aiden sighed and stepped around the corner, eyes closed and clutching his shoulder.

Ariel let out a shriek and elbowed Cooper in the ribs, grabbing Aiden's arm as she ran past and dragging him down the corridor. He screamed and Ariel grabbed his other arm.

"Did father actually break your shoulder?" Aiden nodded and she sighed.

"He always was violent…uh oh, quick Aiden run!"

There was a thud, and when Aiden turned around he saw a pack of wolves charging after them.

"Ari!!" He yelled as one nipped at his ankle. Ariel screamed again and lead Aiden to the entrance to their father's private part of the house.

"Stay here, and get fa-Dad."

"What?!" Her brother stared at her incredulously as she went to push him through the doorway, he grabbed her wrist and looked directly into her dark blue eyes.

"I'm not leaving you, Arianna Amilla Anderson." He muttered, using a nickname he'd made up hen he was 4. His sister looked fearfully at him, then slowly her face crackled into a smile, and she hugged him.

"Then let's stick together, Abraham Richard Anderson."

"Ok."

Aiden reached over, gripping his sisters hand as they both stepped around the corner.

Instantly, a giant claw loomed above their heads, and Aiden ducked while Ariel collapsed. Her brother didn't notice this, and continued to dodge all the wolves leaping at him. The pack scratched him one by one, and eventually he was on the floor with his sister, blood seeping out onto the floor. Aiden crawled over to Ariel and shook her, sobbing.

"Ari, wake up. Ariel, ARIEL! Wake up! Please, no I can't lose you, god please wake up!"

He could hear a car outside, and the sound of people yelling and running up the large driveway, then his fathers voice, muttering something.

The wolves all paused and looked at each other, whimpering, before stalking off down the corridor, leaving only one standing next to them.

The wolf, which was golden-yellow and had a red streak down the middle of its back, let out a snarl and leapt forward, aiming for his heart. Aiden closed his eyes, waiting for the extreme pain. However, all he heard was a whimper, a SNAP and another thud.

When he opened his eyes, his sister was lying unconscious and unmoving in a pool of blood, with two bite marks going deep into her legs.

That was the last thing he saw before he passed out...

When he woke up, he discovered that his sister was dead...
