It was safe to say the legions were having a streak of bad luck running for quite some time now. From getting arrested, to being put to sleep and thrown into an underground jail, then tricking their way out and having to fight for their freedom and lives on the line. There just wasn't a break in between for them. And they all could agree to say one singular universal truth, THEY MISSED HOME.
While all the above mentioned happened in the Hunter's base in the hands of Damien and the leaders council, the same could not be said for this scenario as they were facing a completely different foe all together. And to make it worse, now that they could see what they had in their hands, they had realized how badly the odds were stacked against them. Hundreds or so beast trooping into their location. This was the typical case of "from frying pan to fire".
"I kinda miss the three masked Damien's men now" Blair said staring through the hole in the "hideout" Johan had constructed.
"No kidding, would do anything to be there rather than here" Corey said and he wasn't the only one who felt this way.
"You can't tell me its this beast we are supposed to face, right?" Erwin asked and deep within he was wishing someone would say no and wake him up telling him this was all a dream. But just like everyone there, he was fully aware this was as real as it could get and the sad thing was they had no idea the situation would get even worse as time went.
"The system says it's a turf war and the map displayed multiple beasts signals, how come there is only one in the area. And are they all like this?" Eiko said. The others had shuddered at this statement. This was what Erwin was trying to imply just before, if they were all going to be looking the same as the one they could see now did. And they were supposed to be moving as a group, making the sight in front of them more confusing.
Prior to what the map in their systems displayed, claiming there were more than one beast in the area, all they could see at the moment was one beast. One beast that made them even more scared of what the outcome of the entire manifestation of the turf war would look like. As in front of them not too far away was a huge serpent looking beast.
But the size of the beast wasn't what bothered them the most to be frank. In fact, what had made them wish to return to the fight with Damien was the two headed serpent beast with spikes running from the two heads and joining up at the area just where their necks connect then all the way to the tail region. And the tail that would normally grow thin for most normal serpents wasn't the same in this case. This one had a mace for a tail as the tip of the tail was round and had considerable concentrations of spikes around it.
It was truly a terror to behold. And their hearts raced as they watched the serpent do nothing other than coil around and frantically looking around the area it sat. It would hiss and continue to stay in this position looking around now and then like it was awaiting the arrival of something. And the moment had finally arrived. From the thick trees around them, multiple beasts stormed the area, causing the ground to tremble and weak branches falling off from their respective trees.
"Oh...my.....God" Blaze said and for once, the others turned around in shock to hear this from her. This was for one reason and one reason only, "She's scared too?" They all thought. Yes, they were all scared but neither of them expected her to be since she had always put on a confident appearance all the time. And given how she had pioneered the attack against the advanced feral wolf beast the time they had gone on the hunt with Zayn, they just didn't see her being scared of anything again. Well that was up unti now.
And her reaction only made things worse as they too had lost some of the courage they had tried to muster up. But it wasn't like she overreacted in any way. No, far from it. In fact, some would even say she was calm in this situation as it took guts not to outrightly freak out seeing the things in front of them. The numbers were just too many and it didn't look like it would stop.
"Monkeys!!!??" Blair said in a hushed tone as right now more than ever, he was a firm believer of keeping their presence and location a top secret. But he was right, to some extent. They did look like monkeys, they had some of the physical features a monkey would typically have but one thing was, they were far from being the conventional monkeys they knew and honestly some of them loved.
These were the same ape like creatures Yang had met at the other side and faced off with. But in this scenario, Yang wasn't around the area and certainly wasn't the enemy. Something else was the target and praying so hard in their minds, the legions wished not to be discovered as they had beasts completely surrounding them.
"So much for a trap!" Blair complained as he was clearly having none of it. The trap they had set earlier had completey failed as the first beast that arrived at the scene had completely destroyed all Johan had constructed. The ones set on the tree tops weren't an exception as the horde of beasts had also destroyed it quite easily making the legions question Johan's plan inwardly. But ofcourse they wouldn't say this to him not to hurt his feelings. But even with their silence, he was already starting to feel it was all his fault.
"If only I hadn't given them this much hope" Johan thought as he stared at the scene unfolding. But one person noticing the silence from him thought it wise to try and console him.
"You know, the reason those traps failed is because we had no idea what we wanted to catch in the first place. And it isn't that its an epic fail, it did damage to the first set of beasts that ran into it. So maybe with the right information, we might have actually pulled this off. We all made a very stupid and ignorant move" Rodney said in a quiet tone. The others only looked at him for a brief second before turning their heads to peek through the hole Johan had made in their hideout. ,
Johan was the only one affected by Rodney's talk. Though he felt Rodney was in a way trying to make it a group's fault rather than pin the blame on an individual, he still felt it was quite nice of him to try to make him(Johan) feel less at fault about the situation they were in. However, none of the things Rodney had said made any sense to the others as they all had something else in mind and that was the disturbing view in front of them.
"Wait, I thought it was two monkey groups against eachother. Is it the two snake beast that's caused all this problem?" Eiko asked and the group analyzing the situation also felt that way too.
"If that is the case, then I think we would be going for option number one" Rodney said eyeing the snake beast whose head was raised above the monkeys all circling it. And the group all opened their quest to have a look at what option one was..
