Chapter 11: The Questions And No Answers

~Axel~

"Is she alright?" Gabby rushed asking Axel as he was getting a soda from the ground floor as she got moved down to the second floor. "Breathe mama Gabs she is fine she is still asleep she will wake anytime her body is ready. "Safe to say we going to be missing out on church Sunday." "What did the doctor say? What happened to my kid?" Caleb asked looking worried as hell. "Well two men came into the fourth-floor lab. They had codes they were looking for a man who was the main supplier who gave them the drugs to sell however something between them happened where they got fired and cut off for dipping too much in the supply they were supposed to sell." Taking a quick breath before he continued and looked back between both of them.

"Apparently the man was supposed to be in the hospital they were already hopped on a meth when they came in here flaying their guns at the fourth-floor lab looking for whoever the man was. Jessie was leaving a patients room and saw them flagged it to the page to the staff. Hospital locked down to keep the rest safe she got stuck inside the sealed doors. They wanted to use her to lure out whatever guy they are looking for because she knows him well according to the source and witnesses, and what the camera and audios caught." Axel shook his head as Caleb was holding onto Gabby listening to Axel intently as Killian, Chloe, and Axel's parents came up behind him.

"The men were identified as Sage and Jasper last names are still unknown Sage pistol whipped Jessie across the face making a slice mark to which she needed a few stitches. She got shot at luckily the bullet only grazed her side also needed a couple of stitches and getting patched up. Bruising around the neck leaving her throat a little on the sore side. The panic attack on top of it all was too much with the lack of oxygen that asshole took from her while he had ahold of her throat her brain just kind of shut down so the body could heal or so many doctors have said."

"Got a bunch of second opinions there. Good looking out son." Sean told placing a hand on his shoulder. "What took security so long to get here if you of all people got up there before they could seal the place off?" Dana asked in a curious tone. "Mom do you think you could not insult my brother right now. It's not the damn time." Killian snapped at her. "I wasn't insulting him it was an honest question. Axel the security is already in the building how did you and your men who's station is clear across town get the building locked down before they even got there." Dana asked him again feeling lost.

"I understand where you're coming from I already had a long talk with the security staff about how two armed men got in with weapons in the first place. Especially since they had them pulled them guns out in the elevator by the second floor. Preston is already beside himself by all the negative press this is going to bring into this place and is more concerned on what Jessie is going to do once she wakes up if she will be too traumatized to keep working here and cut ties with this place all together and then he loses even more patients and it's taking everything in me not to tase his ass if he tries having me suck up to her for him one more time I swear it mama." Axel said as he looked up to Gabby who just nodded to him understanding where he was coming from. Dana was looking at the two very differently now after hearing Axel call Gabby mama for the first real time. "I didn't think you two gotten so close so quickly?" Dana told him in shock. "What do you mean? So quick she's been both those boys best friend for like over two decades there Dana." Sean told her being confused. "Well he's already talking to them like their in-laws. Don't get the wrong idea I love it. I love Jessie I just didn't know you two were so invested to start calling us all mom and dad." Dana told them smiling brightly.

Sean shaking his head still not sure how Dana can be so smart, but so stupid. "First off ma'am we aren't just there yet. I am. I don't believe she is." Axel told them looking Caleb in the just so he knew where he stood on her, who only smiled softly too him. "Second off we've all been calling them mama Gabby and pops or papa Cal since we were little." Axel told her for Killian to nod in agreement shocked after all this time this was the first time she noticed. "Why do you call me ma'am then?" She asked with attitude. "I called you mom to my teacher in second grade after they had an assembly where Killian got student of the month the same day I got up to get the certificate of making the Presidents Honor Roll. She wanted you to take a picture with me. You left before they called my name because Killian got his award first and you told me you did not like it when I called you mom. I've called you ma'am this entire time." Axel told her no longer caring what anyone else thought, it's not like people didn't know his mom relationship was more related to Harry Potter and the Dudley's. Killian just nodded along to him when she looked at him in shock.

"Well I'm sure you just heard wrong. I have no issues with you calling me mom I am your mother." "Can we see Jes?" Caleb asked her in worry and not with patience to have this conversation that will hurt Axel even more then he already is because he could see his boy had no more energy for this right now and would snap and make this very ugly. "Yeah, I was just heading back up." Both Alderman's and the Graves family made their way up there and were in the room for a good two and half hours before Caleb and Gabby went out to make a couple of phone calls. Killian and Chloe had to go to get Maddison. Killian hugging his brother a little too hard as he fought back some tears looking at his best friend in the bed. Knowing and seeing the video of what happened to her and not being able to help her. Watching her get beat on and her life in a psycho hands, he was useless to help he could only imagine what Axel feels like. "We are one call away for whatever you need." Chloe told him kissing Jes forehead and Axels cheek.

"Do you need anything son?" Sean asked him feeling broke seeing his son trying so hard to keep it together just to see Jessies eyes and know she's ok. After seeing her be so scared and terrified he all he wanted to do had her hold him close to her have her talk to him about anything just so he can hear her heart beat and know she feels safe again. Those words of hers keep ringing through his head. 'You're my safe place Axel.' Those words are used as a mental weapon right now There was nothing he could have done to keep her safe in that moment. No matter what he could have tried he didn't nor couldn't get to her first.

Although he is grateful that Dimitri came and even turned off the oxygen of the floor down, he's thankful for him being there before he could have. However it still left a bad feeling of how he was there and got in any way he just couldn't shake the feeling but then again he always hated him with passion for both being in love with the same girl and some of the odd situations he was around in college. His unknown hatred he can't help but harbor for him. Knowing he needed to start acting more adult about it and start letting little shit go. Then again he didn't want to let down being the town's asshole he smirked to himself.

"Um actually dad would you mind going to my place and in grabbing one of the backpacks in the hall closet? It's a hiking backpack it's got a complete set of clothes for her, a charger, her brush, comb, hair ties and some other things she's going to need, when she gets up." "Sure son, I'll take your mother home and then go get it for you. Maddison was pretty heart broke about not being able to come play with you two tomorrow, but Chloe told her that they needed some time with her too and that Jessie is a little sick. Also needs time for Uncle Axel to help get her better." Sean smiled.

"Maybe I should swing by and help out with Jessie for a day or two. I mean Axel I'm sure your busy with work and everything but Jessie will need to be well taken care of and." "And what?" Sean asked her looking at her confused. "Well Axel you know we love you and all but you are not the most gentle person or the best with words. I mean you two can argue like cats and dogs in a middle of meat hurricane. Maybe she needs someone how can handle her with a little more TLC, no offense?" Dana tried to be nice but more criticizing.

"Look I know we have had differences of opinion before that was only because I couldn't man up and tell her how I feel. I know we will bump heads down the road but we are not the way we've been. I can handle my girlfriend and her injuries with more TLC then you think you I have ma'am. With no offense you don't know the first thing about Jessie I have my whole life of knowing everything about her. You don't know the first thing about anyone that isn't Killian ma'am."

"That is not true." Dana wanted to argue until Sean cut her off. "Dana just stop. You don't know her the way he does. Jessie doesn't need you; she needs Axel. Damn woman Jessie won't even order for herself she turns to Axel. She runs everything through him because he's the only one who knows her down to her damn soul Dana. You know why because he loves her. She feels safe around him! She trusts him Dana. Why can't you?" Sean asked her looking stumped as Axel mouth dropped a little he never heard his dad call his mom out or question her on anything all of his life.

"I trust him just fine. It's just you know how he can get." "Yeah I do, you don't. Axel son I'm sorry. We goin' to leave you guys alone and let you have your space I will be back with the bag. Dana we going to go home and have an overdue talk." Sean said as he started pushing his wife out the door. Axel would love to be a fly on that wall if he wasn't already emotionally tied up here. Gabby was talking to the doctor as he noticed Caleb was gone, walking back to the room he stopped at the sound of male voices in the room. "That was nice of you to bring Jessie flowers. You didn't have to though." Caleb told the man standing closer to Jessie then he would have liked. Dimitri was standing over her running a hand through her hair.

"She deserves so much more but this is the best I can pull off." Dimitri shrugged to him. "You know I want to thank you boy for getting to my baby when you did I am so grateful someone at least tried to help her." Caleb told him sitting in the chair near the door. "It was really nothing. I would do anything for her. That was a really messed up situation to be in, it hurts me to know how scared she was. I just feel bad I couldn't get to her sooner." Dimitri told him sadly not being able to look away from her.

"You know there is something that just baffles me after seeing and watching everything the sheriffs, and the detectives shown me. Maybe you can help me figure it out." "I can try sir." Dimitri told him still not turning away from my face. "Well I know you know certain codes being a part of the staff however you aren't on the special section of the staff anymore though so how is it when she was trying to use the codes they failed for her as well as her badge failed to help get her out of that room. Yet you've been off staff for that special treatment and you were able to get in using the same codes and badges those men who took two lives and almost my baby here's life. How is that possible?"

"The security I guess hasn't changed the system of the codes yet, and maybe they haven't wiped me from the system I am still on the system for when they call me in I have no idea why her badge was failing. The codes though maybe she was to scared and putting them in wrong? I have no idea why it didn't work." "It's just odd to me when they pulled up the system her codes were right, yet the system was rejecting it and over-riding everything the security couldn't get in, Jessie couldn't get out the lab team couldn't get out yet you pop up using the same exact codes and all of a sudden it magically works?" Caleb asked him scratching the back of his head.

"I have no idea sir the whole thing was completely crazy. I guess I just got lucky for a moment there I was just scared they would be firing with the oxygen still on in the floor. A little more scared when I saw the position Jes was in." "Yeah it's an odd situation." Caleb said running his hands down his face. "I'll leave you to it I got to go. Could you ask her to call or text me later. When she feels up to it?" "Yeah, I'll tell her." Dimitri walked out of the room never noticing Axel on the side. Sneaking into the room looking at Caleb who was just staring at Jessie lost in thought. "Seems like I'm not the only one who doesn't' trust that asshole." Axel smiled slightly sitting down next to her holding her hand. "It just doesn't makes sense to me." "I guess it won't hurt to let you know my theory of maybe someone also working the inside?" "You think so?" Caleb asked letting him feel less crazy.

"Someone had to obviously be watching on look out on the cameras, they had access to deny even security and the rest of the staff entry and access to things. All except Dimitri. Why him? How did those guys get to access using the same codes unless someone was using a manual remote access to allow and deny people entry or a way out unless they could block it they would need to hack into the system and do it themselves. My problem is who was this mystery stranger really helping? They let these nut cases in and were letting them have a field day until Jessie came into view then it all changed. Sage and Jasper were going to use her because whoever they were looking for knows her well. She knows everyone here and the damn city it could literally be anyone. She has a huge fan base. Once she was getting hurt they let everyone else in the building to take them down. That person let those men and two hostages die. For two very different reasons, but why what did they want?" Axel asked looking Caleb who felt just as lost.

"They wanted him. They were looking for him. They want him to pay for cutting them off." "Jessie?" "Angel. Nurse!" Both Axel and Caleb sprung up from their chairs. Gabby running in with a doctor and a nurse. "Angel are you ok? Do you feel any pain?" "Babe I got used as a rag doll, yes I feel a little pain." She told him as he rolled his eyes playfully to her earning him a wink back. "You scared the crap out of me young lady what were you thinking?" Her mother told her.

"I was thinking of crap the door came down and I'm on the wrong side. It's not like I woke up mom and thought huh you know what sounds fun today? Let's get pistol whipped and choked out because those are healthy kinks to have." Jessie told her mother sarcastically waving her hands in mockery making her dad laugh a little bit. Oh yeah she was definitely his kid as her mother glared at her and shook her head. "I'm sorry I scared you." She added as the doctor was doing her checkup and the nurse took some blood and vitals.

"You've been here for about a full day I would like to run some scans on you and if they are ok I would be comfortable sending you home as long as you have someone with you for at least a day or two. I mean you're a doctor and know that it's more for mental health then physical. I think you will be just fine as long as you address your stitches properly. You won't have to come in to take them out one you can do it." Doctor Stevens told her as she nodded to him she always got along with him as they were the same type of people. "Can you please get my man here a legal pad he's going to need to take my statement while it's still fresh in my head." "Yes, he can have mine just throw out the first page it's useless math for antibiotics for another patient. I swear safe sex is like common sense and should be addressed more." Dr. Stevens said rolling his eyes making everyone laugh at him.

"Are you comfortable giving your statement with those in the room or would you like me to clear the room out?" He asked in his officer voice her parents understood the protocol. "They can stay if they are comfortable with it. It is not the same hearing me say it as it is watching though." She told her parents. "Well wait outside." Gabby and Caleb got up and walked out not having the heart to hear it from her and not watch her try to be strong. After about twenty minutes and questions they were left still wondering things. "So you have no clue or hint of who the mysterious man is that they were looking for?" Axel asked her he also recorded the interview on his phone as he wrote it all out.

"No, I just think they must have had help getting in there from someone either who works for the hospital or a really good hacker because no one has the codes. There was no reason it should have failed, for anyone. The other thing that baffled me was the oxygen story from Dimitri you said he went in and turned it off. The oxygen wasn't on for anyone except the bottom two floors and this has been the way since even before Dimitri left how can he shut down something in that room that wasn't even working or functioning in like a two years? What else could he have possibly been in there for? There are so many other things in the room did you guys actually see on camera that he went in there and shut it off?" Jessie asked him Axel thinking back.

"No the cameras went dark once he went in and when he came back out it picked up." "Axel there was so many gun shots going off where they fired by just two guns or sis someone else have another? How could Dimitri shoot back at Sage when he had ahold of me, when Jasper still had hold of his gun when you guys came in and then Sage when I fell down he still had his where did the other gun come from was it from Dimitri How did the metal detector not pick it up when he walked in? Was that what he got from that room that the cameras blacked out in?" She asked him. "I can't answer that right now angel. I will check to make sure all bullets and guns match and are accounted for and I will look into your concerns love but I can't promise I can tell you anything. You may have to come back down to the station though baby if anything else pops up or we have more questions for you." "I understand Sheriff Graves." She winked to him as he stopped the recording on his phone. There heard the knock on the door as Preston made his way in with a huge bouquet of flowers.

"Your parents wanted to send their love but they have to leave out of town again for the week they said you were in good hands." He held up the vase full of multicolored flowers. "Also Sheriff Graves your father left you this backpack." He told him confused. "Our hiking backpack, why?" "It has a change of clothes for you and all your hair stuff and shit you use. I asked him to swing it by so you could change into some normal clothes. Only one who gets or needs to see all this lusciousness is my fat ass. Everyone else can mind they business." Axel told her point a finger to her making her roll her eyes and smile to him. "ANYWAYS! Thank you President Johnson that was very considerate of you. I can't help but wonder how they were able to leave it with and not a nurse. Why are you really here Preston?" Jessie was confused.

"I along with many other members of the staff have been so worried about you and the craziness of what happened. It is my job to ensure the safety of everyone who enters those doors and I failed you and so many others of that. I am sorry. I don't even know what to say to you because I don't know why I couldn't get anyone into you. I don't understand any of it. It should have never happened and I can never explain to you how sorry I am I let you down and got you hurt. I can't even think of a way to repent to you." "Preston it's fine. It wasn't something you could control completely at least from what I can remember then again I don't know how they got through security and metal detectors without going off with the guns and knives on hand so maybe this place isn't as safe as it should be." Jessie told him thinking really hard about it.

"I was hoping to see what it is I could do to make you feel safe with working with us after you leave here today?" "Let me stop you right there. What makes you think I will be coming back in here to work after this?" Jessie asked him which left both men mouth dropped for two different reasons Axel was excited he wouldn't have to worry about her coming back. It wasn't' safe here for her that much was obvious he rather have her across the street where he can get to her no problem. Preston was shocked thinking of all the business and publicity he was going to lose not having her on staff anymore. "What are you saying Dr. Alderman?"

"Exactly what you're thinking President' Johnson. I am cutting all my ties with this hospital after I leave here today. I know you feel bad, and although I know it wasn't exactly in your control the situation I put myself in, the whole thing could have been averted had protocol been followed two men with metal like that couldn't have gotten in without someone letting them. Two men civilians right off the street shouldn't have been able to have so much access every step of the way, the way they did. So Preston you should feel bad because this hospital did fail the safety to others which I trust you with the help of Axel and his men will get to the bottom of this. As to how and why they were able to succeed in getting as far as they did. It should have never happened and the only way I can guarantee that it won't is by removing myself from the equation of possibilities. I'm out President Johnson, completely out I will have my name off everything to do that relates me to this hospital in any way shape or form, I will have my lawyer make sure it is done." She told him grabbing the forms the legal department handed Axel to read this morning.

"Are you sure you want to do this Jessie after so much you did here? I mean maybe you should sleep on it and think it over a few days there is no need to rush this." "I've had a whole damn day to think about this as I laid here in this bed after get smacked, shot at, and choked by some crazy guy who magically knew everything right where it was supposed to be except the man he was looking for. You can also take these forms back. I denied them I will not be signing the waiver of liability of what happened here I am not sure if I want to sue you yet. I just know I need t get as far away from this place of horrors as I can. I want my discharge papers as soon as my scans are taken. Do you understand me fully President Johnson?"

Looking at her full of rage yet trying to hide it. "Yes, Dr. Alderman you will be dismissed at the nurses early connivance." "Better be sooner than that Preston. You done pist my girl off, you don't want to make the same mistake with me on having us wait." Axel told him shoving the papers in his chest and shutting the door on him. Looking to her. "You need to stay away from here baby something not right with this whole picture." Jessie nodded to him as the door opened again with a wheel chair and her favorite nurse to come take her to the scans.

~No One's P.O.V~

After being discharged and helping her get cleaned up it was nice having Axel wait on her even though she kept telling him it wasn't necessary. "Have you seen my phone?" "Yeah Dimitri found it after he checked you over." Axel told her pulling it out of the bag they gave her of her things. "It's broken." Looking confused. "Really?" Looking down at the screen it had a shattered screen. "Axel this isn't my phone. The only other person around me was." She looked up to him shock. "Sage." Axel told her grabbing a Ziplock bag and putting it in there grabbing his phone.

"Ryder you on the clock right now?" "Yeah man I'm off in like an hour why you guys need me to drop something off on my way to Aria's?" "No man I need you to come to my place and grab some evidence from the hospital incident." "What kind of evidence?" "Moretti gave me what he thought was Jessies phone but it's not it's Sages." "Wow that's a pretty good lead but we pulled both phones off the bodies. Elias actually has Jessie phone he said he forgot he put in his pocket. Dimitri was on his phone when he left the place. Who else could even belong to if it was just Jessie, Jasper, Sage, and Dimitri on the floor? On my way through by the way. Axel hung up looking down confused. The battery and everything was still good in a way they could transfer everything off the phone to the clone part at work. "Axel I think this is his." "Whose angels?" "The only name that never got spoken, like he was fucking Voldemort. His."

Ryder was half way to Axels place when a car came out of nowhere in a field on trees from an old non noticeable dirt road and started going a little too fast. Ryder flipped on his lights and pulled the driver over. Never seeing the car before he walked up cautiously to the driver's side. "Do you know why I pulled you over? Moretti?" Ryder asked confused. "Either because I was going a little too fast or the fact that you and your entire friends hate me when I did nothing wrong to you guys?" "It was the first one and I would appreciate sir if you would watch your tone. License and registration please." Ryder snapped back bitterly.

"I didn't mean it like that Brooks. It's just been a long three days I'm sure you can understand why." He responded in a defeated tone. "Yeah I do. Whose car is this?" "It's my friend he needed to swap cars with me for the weekend." "Does he have any warrants?" "Not to my knowledge." "You know what Moretti it's been a fucked week and I am already on a run. SO this is your warning to slow down." Ryder told him handing the stuff back. "Really? That's not like you guys?" "Actually it is. If you actually knew us you would know that. Also you know very well what you did wrong with us. So remember to drive safe." Ryder told him to move back and turn to go to his truck.

"You guys really don't let shit go do you? How many times do people expect you to keep paying for the same mistakes you've made?" "Excuse me? I never made mistakes like you have bro your track record when you were in college was far from being squeaky clean. Axel was right about you then and now. I still don't understand how everyone in your frat house got caught making drugs but you. Isn't it ironic though not of the females were able to say they were raped thanks to the drug your 'brothers' go tin their system the same mother fuckers who couldn't pass chemistry all it. Yet you were never around because you were too busy sniffing around Jessie's dorm except when Axel was there. Then years later you get your shot and you fucking lay hands on her. You still want to wonder what you did wrong the list goes longer then your ego and IQ Boy." "That's a nice theory officer don't you have some naked crack heads stealing plants to arrest or something? You know shit you guys can actually solve?" Dimitri told him with a smirk. Ryder started walking away grabbing his baton. "You need to get that fix sir last warning." "What fixed." Not even stopping or looking back to Dimitri taking his baton in one swing shattering to pieces. "Your friends tail light."
