Saving our lives

"I think we should do what we wanted at this moment. She will help shield us. It will be more effective." Peter said all of a sudden. I turned and looked at him hard

"What? Have I said anything wrong? It's finding an opportunity and grasping it. We are in shit. If we don't do anything, we will be dead." He added. I could see where he was coming from. Things will be even worse as the pandemic prolonged.

"Okay. Let's be fast and careful." I said to the ladies in the bathroom.

"I am scared. I don't think I can do it." She said taking steps away from the door. We could hear Esther fighting the undead hard. Screaming. If we missed the opportunity, she would've done it for nothing.

I can't say I was not hoping for her to sacrifice for the big picture but I didn't expect her to do it on her own

"Go." I said and led the way. I was ready for anything as long as my son get to survive. I knew for sure they would not have gone first

Getting out of the room with my rod and a gun I found in the room, I took the lead and charged at the infected attacking Esther. She was all bloody. There were bike marks all over her but she had strong will power. Right below her feet lay five undead that she had killed in minutes. Never mess with anyone who have nothing to lose.

Had she been well and healthy, she would not have done what she did. I joined her but kept my distance. At any time she would turn against me. I have to eb cautious. Peter joined me and I was at first surprised by his courageous stance. He seemed to be a different person from the person I saw few moments ago.

"Behind you Peter. " I shouted at him noticing one of old undead attacking him from behind. He turned and gave the old infected a hard hit on the head and it fell down dead blood sputtered all over the floor.

The stench emitting from the undead was unbearable

"How can someone die and rot in an hour" I asked unconsciously

"From… what … I had others discussing, the infection is made from the lab and it has an accelerating factor that makes the body rot faster than normally." Peter answered me hitting one of the undead down before giving me his back and facing backwards. He wanted me to give him cover and him to give me as well

It was the most effective way we could survive. The two women stayed right behind us and helped kill those that we hit and didn't die immediately. Adrenaline having kicked in, survival instinct became on high alert. In a blink of an eye. We had dropped twenty of them down. There were other ten at the far end coming at us but we were ready for them. I had one of the women crying from behind us. We turned and there she was bitten by Esther. She had completely turned. There was nothing we could to save the both of them

"I don't want to be one of those things. Help me. End it for me. Kill me" the bitten woman said whimpering. She hit Esther had on the hit. She kept on hitting her until she turned into pupa.

" Come down. Let me see the would." I tried to be calm but I was hoping she would not turn anytime soon. From the moment he pandemic hit, I had seen lots of people turn and the time it took to run all differ. Some of the people turned almost immediately while others took up to 6 hours. Take Monica for example, she was scratched at nigh while we were fighting the undead to surviving at the woods. But she stayed alive for more than ten hours. My conclusion came as: the degree of bite and the location determined how fast you were going to die or live

Looking at her wound, it would not take her long to die. It was on her neck. Having no choice, I aimed my gun at her as she closed her eyes and let me take care of her. Peter stopped me before I could pull the trigger

"What are you doing? She is still human. You can't kill her just like that."

"What? You were her to turn on us? Besides there is no difference between me killing her now and in a few minutes." I answered him back looking at his bewildered face. He seemed to have seen a ghost

"Still she is alive. Wait until she turns and kill her" Peter argued back not caring for anything else.

"Come on Peter. She wants her body intact and not to turn to those things. Please grant her wish" I tried to persuaded him but my words hit a deaf ear

"No. I will take care of her. As long as she is still alive, we can help tried to heal her. May the antibiotics could heal her" He argued seemingly sentimental. There were lots of emotions on his words. There was something I didn't understand. Why would he insist knowing she would die anyway?

"Okay. You deal with her" I sighed throwing in the towel. I will not argue with a man that has lost his sense of reason.

I moved forward and countered one of the undead that was closing in on Peter. I shot him on the head without blinking. Using a gun was not new to me. Having been a ranger for a while, it was part of our training. I checked my gun and saw there were six rounds of ammunition and it was enough to get rid of the six of the remaining and the others would be easy with my iron rod

Getting the six down, I swiftly moved to the ones that were hindered by the table and pierced then on the head.

I heard a loud screamed from behind me…..
