8. You have to help me

-Anastasia’s POV-

I walked to the school gate where I was supposed to meet Farisa but I saw Ajax standing there while the students peeked at him when they passed by.

...Was he waiting for me? But I had told him I was going to Farisa’s home.

Taking a deep breath in, I walked to him and found Farisa standing behind him with her head bowed. She peeked at me from the corner of her eyes and almost jumped to me.

“What’s up?” I looked up at the tall man who crossed his arms, looking a bit impatient.

“Pick you up.” Farisa glanced between Ajax and me, daring not to speak.

“I’ve told you I will stay at Farisa’s home.” I glared at him and he only gave me a blank stare.

“I know.”

“So why are you...” I felt anger welling up in my chest. Can’t he understand my words?

“I have to talk to you.” Apparently he realized I pissed him off this afternoon, leaving him no chance to lecture me.

“Well, I think we have nothing to talk about.” I ignored his hands and pulled Farisa closer to me.

“Hey, your brother looks hurt...” Farisa whispered in my ears but I looked back only to see him staring at me emotionless.

“You must be wrong.” I rolled my eyes to her and we walked to her home nearby.

“Hey! Have I told you what my parents are doing?” Farisa giggled when she turned around only to find my mouth gaped after we stepped into her parents’ study.

I didn’t have a look at this room since Farisa never invited me in and it was at someone else’s house...

But I was really stunned by the bookshelves standing here! They occupied the four walls and they were so tall that they even reached the ceiling!

“How many books have your parents read?” Farisa shut my mouth and I murmured.

“Well, I don’t actually know.” She shrugged, “I don’t know why they are so fond of reading and studying...They study werewolf mythology! I mean, who will study such a boring subject?”

“But that’s cool!”

“Why?” She motioned me to come closer and passed me a cup of tea.

“Your parents have something they really love. That’s cool.” I was aspiring for that life...I hoped I could live a life when nobody would call me a freak and I could do whatever I wanted.

“Have they told you some tales?” I kinda wanted to know what myths we werewolf had.

“Well,” Farisa sipped tea, “They once said there is a kind of wolf who could heal other wolves...”

“But werewolves can heal by themselves...” Why would we need such a wolf?

“Right. But not all wounds can heal.” Farisa suddenly became serious, “They said those wolves can heal bad injuries and even bring the dead to life...”

She lowered her voice and her face against the dim light somehow looked a bit scary...

“So what will happen..?” I kinda knew what would dawn on those wolves...They could be used as a panacea.

“Nobody has seen those wolves since last century. The last invisible wolf died because her identity as an invisible wolf was revealed. Wolves always hunted for them, so they disappeared.”

“That’s...cruel.” I mumbled.

“Right. But who knows if that’s true? They study myths! Maybe it’s just a tale.” Farisa raised her voice and gave me a comforting smile.

“Wait…Did you just say invisible wolf?” Invisible? I suddenly had a wild guess…

“Yeah…those wolves are born to have a healing power but it costs them dearly.”

“..How?” My voice trembling, I had a bad feeling.

“They will make other wolves’ wounds worsen after they become adults and their wolves can show up.” She shrugged. Apparently, she didn’t believe in the tale. But I froze when hearing what she said.

“That’s why they were killed, right? Everyone thinks they are misfortunes…” My heart was wrung. Why couldn’t I have a normal life? What if other wolves found out my secret??

Farisa thought I was scared by her tale and patted me on the back.

“By the way, you look pretty cool today!” Farisa turned to me, her eyes shining in the dim light. She was comforting me in her way.

“You beat up that little bit*ch!” She clapped, “She really needs a lesson!”

I stuck my tongue to her, “Well, I am good at fighting in human form.”

“Oh, but tomorrow we will fight in wolf form. I haven’t seen your wolf yet!” Farisa’s head supported by her hands, she gazed at me adoringly.

My heart sank.

I must disappoint you, Farisa.

Your friend is crap.

“I...”

What should I say? Farisa, I couldn’t shift?

Then...Could you help me avoid tomorrow’s fight?

But she will ask why...After I beat up Stacy, she will definitely wonder why I am eager to avoid fighting in the wolf form.

What should I say? God, help me.

“Anastasia?” Farisa shook me to reality. “Are you okay? You look pale...”

I looked at her eyes filled with worry. I sighed and made a big decision.

“Farisa, you are the only person I trust in the pack...” I grabbed her shoulders and saw her eyes wide.

“I am glad you trust me...But why you...”

“Because I have a secret. I can’t tell you now. I am sorry.” I bit my lips and found Farisa looking at me curiously.

“You have to help me skip that wolf fight. Please.”
