Pity Party

After another five minutes of no movement from Joonho I tried to slow down. I didn’t want to sit there and watch him eat, having eaten everything on my plate while he’d been on the phone. I look up at him, trying to decide whether I should instigate a conversation to get him to put down his phone and eat, but I instantly regretted it as his eyes met mine.

“Sorry, I invited you to eat with me and I’m working.” He finally set his phone down on the edge of his chair, taking a fork into his hand and a knife.

“It’s okay. If you have to work, I can go.” His head jerked up as I suggested and even his expression was enough to answer for.

“Of course not, I’m sorry. I don’t want you to feel unwelcome.” He insisted.

We ate in silence for a minute. I poured myself coffee and offered him some. He thanked me for serving him and we returned to silence again.

“How did it go yesterday? I didn’t see any boxes or anything, did you not bring your things?”
