In all the years before, Xie Lan had never passed such an order to restrict the evil spirits passing through the ghost city like now. Over time, the number of evil spirits roaming the human realm had grown to a sizable amount.

However, the people of the spiritual association were not simply white-collared workers receiving a monthly pay. Most of them wouldn't allow these evil spirits to cause mayhem but there were some unpreventable disasters.

That was why the workers who dealt with the evil spirits everyday were overjoyed to hear the ghost king promise to send ghosts to capture the evil spirits in the human realm.

No matter how great the wages were, it was still tiring and dangerous to eradicate evil spirits. There was even a risk of dying. If it weren't for the pressure of the responsibility on their shoulders and their loyalty to the country, these divination masters wouldn't take on such a job.

There were too many evil spirits. Even those the ghost city had sent over to deal with them weren't able to catch them all. Meanwhile, those in the capital were troublesome evil spirits which affected the luck of the place. The thick spiritual energy that converged here attracted even more evil demons and spirits who wanted a piece of this meat to further their cultivation.

Originally, when Gu Yan had first come to this world and experienced the matter with the Shen family, he had already prepared to retire and become an upstanding citizen. However, the situation changed too abruptly. Just as he had made up his mind, the people from the spiritual association came knocking on his door, wanting him to be their auspicious charm.

The events that occurred after he arrived in the ghost city were even further from his expectations. He found that his family's Qiuqiu was actually the ghost city's biggest boss and naturally stayed behind. He stayed for a month, cultivating from a false god to a true god in cultivation terms. When he returned to the human realm, he was once again pulled to attend the spiritual convention.

All these were related to the divination master's job scope. His solid plan to retire and become an upstanding citizen was thrown out of the window.

Now, Gu Yan had accepted another job.

"Hui Yun ghosts aren't capable of causing a bloody disaster but this is not true for evil spirits." As the biggest boss of the ghost city, Xie Lan was very clear on every type of spirit. After looking at the job description, he easily found a few similar evil spirits.

He was just a step away from having sufficient power. This bit of time was needed for him to achieve something. However, his beloved was right before his eyes so Xie Lan wasn't in a hurry.

Gu Yan nodded when he heard this. The ghost city was his family's.The bloody and tragic ending that would occur as a result of the gates opening five years later doesn't seem as if it would happen now.

Having averted this disaster, he still needed to stay in this world for a period of time. Gu Yan naturally hoped the ghost city and human realm could have a treaty. Just like now, neither antagonized each other.

He didn't wish for there to be a day where he had to choose a side because he knew he would definitely choose his family's Qiuqiu. Then, many people in the human realm would die…

But humans couldn't control the trajectory of these matters. Just like how Gu Yan, who'd just accepted this job, didn't expect to find himself faced with such choices in the future.

The client was from the influential Lin family in the capital. Comparing them to the Shen family from before, the latter wasn't worth mentioning. It was like a great magician meeting a novice apprentice.

The Lin's family's business and political connection wasn't something to scoff at. These people would seek a newcomer rather than well-established great masters because they'd already gotten information about the Spiritual convention through private connections and specially came knocking.

Other than spirit tamers, what other class would be better at dealing with these spirits? There was none, hence, the Lin family came to look for Gu Yan.

This time, it was the Lin family's main residence which needed help. Unlike the Shen family's ancestral residence, their status was vastly different. The Lin family lived on an extremely expensive plot of land, where a single brick could easily crush to death those millionaires living in the lavish districts.

Logically, this favourable plot of land with good fengshui and geography would surely entice spirit hunters. The only matter was that these wealthy and influential businessmen paid more attention to fengshui than regular people. Their house was filled with objects that could gather luck and drive away ghosts.

Being ghosts themselves, if the spirit hunters had a choice, they would definitely want to leave a place that brought them discomfort. They'd go hunt the evil spirits in other areas before returning.

The agreement between the two realms to capture the remaining spirits had become an obligation the ghost city had to fulfill. The ghost city's responsibility was equivalent to the ghost king's responsibility.

Since the big boss of Ghost City was his family's Qiuqiu, Gu Yan naturally felt responsible. Stroking the cat's furry back, Gu Yan let out a light sigh.

They were ushered into the Lin's family main residence. Due to the evil spirits residing in the mansion, several people had previously fallen sick. In order to avoid further casualties, the house had been vacated and currently, no one was living in it.

The head of the family didn't want to replace the mansion, not because of the money required; their family didn't lack money. Rather, it was because this mansion sat on the land in the capital where the richest energy converged. With such a precious and invaluable treasure in their hands, there was no possibility of them handing it over.

"There isn't anyone else here, Grandmaster Gu. I've already cleared out this area." The middle-aged steward was extremely respectful towards the guest who'd just arrived. He didn't disregard the youth because of his young age and showed sufficient respect worthy of a divination master.

A person who'd awoken their divine eye from birth was a rare talent that one couldn't find just anywhere even in the spiritual world. However, those who occupied the overwhelming majority of that world were not regular people. As for the Lin family, they were the 'minority'.

He couldn't see the youth lifting up the cat in his arms since those actions were extremely smooth. Others would simply think these movements were a habit of his.

The dark-haired youth appeared to be extremely free, carrying nothing on him. He had no basic compass for ghost hunting or a single talisman, only his two hands. The young divination master who the Lin family found through their connections nodded to the steward. Just as he was about to take a step out of the door–

"Does Grandmaster Gu need a hand?" The head of the family blurted out.

Not too long ago, a few employees of their family were stricken with a serious illness and some appeared to be possessed and mentally deranged. If it weren't because they knew there was something dirty in their home and immediately moved, something severe might have happened.

The Lin family had a very wide network of contacts and a certain understanding of the spiritual world. The head of the Lin family knew that the ghosts in the main residence were not easy to deal with. He inevitably felt uneasy watching the youth go in without any preparation.

Gu Yan shook his head and walked forward without stopping down, leaving the sight of those people standing outside.

Assistant or whatever, when it came to ghosts and spirits, involving regular people was always more of a hassle than not. Just take the most basic ghost for example, they simply needed to create a wall to trap a normal human forever.

At this time, the cat snuggled in his arms finally moved. It rubbed its body against the youth before landing on the ground and regaining its cold, pale, and handsome Ghost King appearance.

Naturally, his beauty was enough to scare those evil spirits to tears.

"The Yin energy here is a little light." Before he stepped into the room, just outside the door, Gu Yan had this feeling. The dark and gloomy air was expected in an area where evil spirits resided. However, compared to the Shen family's ancestral home, the Lin family's mansion gave off a warm feeling like spring.

As if the evil spirits had already been driven away. The Yin energy in the manor had also dissipated.

Without replying, Xie Lan approached the youth and pushed his hands into the other person's hand without bothering to act as if it were an accident. When Gu Yan grasped his hand, he simply let out a low hum and said, "There's one upstairs, but it's not an evil spirit."

This manor was coincidentally constructed such that good spiritual energy would converge at this point. In the entire capital, the number of areas like this, that could cause all sorts of spirits and supernatural beings to rush over, couldn't be counted on two hands. For the sake of resources and personal gains, infighting between ghosts was a common occurrence.

This spiritual energy couldn't entice Xie Lan. To other ghosts, it was like fine liquor but to the ghost king, it was no different from water.

As he walked down the stairs, something warm and moist touched his lips. A certain soft and wet feeling could be felt and Gu Yan quickly realised it was his lover who had licked him.

This person truly wasn't playing his cards normally. Gu Yan looked helplessly at the ghost squinting his eyes and lost in thoughts. "We have to be serious now. Qiuqiu, be good."

Once his words fell, a piece of talisman magically appeared in the carefree dark-haired youth's hand. The standard yellow piece of paper burned up after he finished reciting a short mantra and those with the divine sight could see the mansion immediately turning into an enchantment. This manor had become a prison for all living creatures. Once inside, there was no way out.

"Ah Yan is more delicious." This was in response to his analogy of fine liquor and water earlier. These ambiguous words made the youth, who'd just finished laying down the enchantment, look over with part helplessness and part indulgence.

The spirit residing in the manor wasn't the very first. Instead, it was simply a ghost who came along later on and chased away the previous spirit that had refused to leave. Later on, it directly used force and suppression to chase away the other foolish ghosts that had come to snatch its resource.

The study on the second floor was exactly where the energy converged. Rich spiritual energy was continuously drawn out, and the spirit that had eaten its fill sat with crossed legs while burping. It calmly looked towards the doorway where the two people stood amidst the chaos. When it knew that there were people arriving, it was curious. It was a divination master and a ghost.

The crossed-legged ghost had the appearance of a young child but there wasn't a trace of anxiousness on its face. There was no lack of human and spirits who'd tried to snatch this land from him. But which of them weren't beaten down and chased away by it?

For spirits, it could be more ruthless but when it came to humans, it was more merciful. It was all because the human realm and the ghost city recently signed another peace treaty.

Speaking of which, rumour had it that that person(ghost) had come to the human world… It couldn't help reminiscing about the few times it had met that person. The child-like ghost's jaw tightened and it unconsciously rubbed its cold hands together.

The human world was big. As long as it didn't do anything atrocious like arson or murder, it wouldn't be so unlucky as to meet that person.
