Another Midnight Hunt (V)...

While Daichi was fighting against the Level 2 Zombie, Kemono was having the time of her life. She had no idea why her son was held up, but for whatever reason, he and his buddies had been stalled. So, right now, Kemono was having the time of her life. She had been finally able to sneak away from her son. She loved her son in more than one way, but sometimes, her son could be so unfun.

That wasn't the only reason she had to sneak away from her son. First of all, she wasn't a team player, when she fought she tended to forget about her surroundings and now with her new powers, she was going to become even worse. First, she needed to gain perfect control over her flames or she might end up hurting her son by some accident. That wasn't something Kemono would allow.

Secondly, she needed to complete her job requirements. All of her job requirements needed her to kill enemies without any assistance. Now, Kemono didn't mind being helped by her son, after all, he was the only man she was going to acknowledge in her life, but that is where the problem was. Daichi was not only her lover, he was also her son. So, she needed to protect her son too…

Her motherly instincts were screaming at her to protect her son. That was fine and all, but she needed to grow stronger if she wanted to continue protecting him. She could get stronger if she continued to Level up, but if she wanted to Level up, then she needed to complete the Job requirements. Society would frown upon her mentality, but she didn't care about them and society had already collapsed…

Flames burst out of her hands as she punched a nearby Zombie, blasting it into smithereens. She swung her feet releasing a wave of flames at the Zombies, turning more than a few Zombies into nothing more than ashes. "Bwahaha!! Come on!" Kemono exclaimed and jumped in the air.

Her feet alight with her flames, she was using her flames to propel her higher. After a few moments, she finally twisted her body and started to head toward the surface of the bridge. Kemono slammed her fists on the ground, creating a massive explosion, rattling the whole bridge. Kemono slowly stood up and everything was charred around her, after witnessing the destruction around her, she couldn't help but smile.

She had always been destructive and violent… She never lied about those facts, but right now, she found herself oddly at peace. She felt like it was the most natural thing to do… Kemono would have thought her Job was affecting her, but she knew that wasn't it. First of all, she was yet to complete the Job requirements, so she didn't have the Job. Secondly, she knew herself very well.

Her true personality was finally coming out now that there were no pesky laws binding her. Even before the world was turned upside down, she never cared about laws. From time to time she killed people and she walked away because of the Government, but now… Now, she was completely free to do whatever she wanted. There was nobody to stop her… Well, if Daichi asked then she would restrain herself, but she knew that Daichi would never ask her to limit herself. Well, at least as long as she didn't go overboard.

Kemono had finally succeeded in getting the attention of the rest of the Zombies rampaging on the bridge. She raised her hands in the air and several spears of flames appeared in the air. She brought down her hands and launched the spears toward the horde of Zombies. Moments later, several more explosions rang throughout the bridge, creating several cracks on the bridge,

Kemono decided to check her Job requirements. She was sure that she killed more than a couple of hundred Zombies, but there were still too many and she wasn't sure if either her Stamina or Mana would last that long or not. Her Skills were quite strong, but at the same time, they were quite Mana hungry. Even if Mana would get restored with time, her Stamina wasn't going to get restored in such a short period and she didn't want to find out what would happen when her Stamina ran out.

'Status Window' Kemono called inside her mind. Moments later, a familiar screen appeared in front of her eyes, but Kemono instantly noticed some changes in her Status parameters. When she was rampaging, she was so indulged in the fun that she forgot to notice if she received any notifications or not, but it seemed that she had indeed received some welcome notifications.

After she saw the status of her Job requirements, she couldn't help but feel giddy. She had unknowingly killed 19 Level 1 enemies, along with one Level 2 enemy, which was of course a Zombie. "Bwahaha!! This is such a nice haul!!" Kemono laughed loudly.

"Did you have your fun?" All of a sudden she heard her son's voice from behind her, his voice was filled with irritation. She slowly turned around only to find her son staring at her with an annoyed look on his face. Kemono beamed at Daichi with a wide grin on her face. She was going to start boasting to show her son how awesome she was. The rest of the horde was still quite far from the two of them, so it would take them a lot of time to reach here.

"Son! I killed a Level 2 Zombie without even knowing… she how awesome your mom is?" Kemono slung her arm around her son's shoulder and started to boast shamelessly.

"I know mom. We also killed a Level 2 Zombie, so we know that only Level 2 Zombies would drop orbs like those" Daichi muttered dryly as he pointed towards a couple of orbs lying a few meters away from them. Kemono glanced where her son was pointed and she had to admit that she didn't see them until Daichi pointed them out.

Kemono decided to change the direction of her boasting since her son had also killed a Level 2 Zombie. "Haha!! I expected nothing else from you my son" Kemono laughed wildly as she rubbed her son's head. "Good, so what are those orbs?" Kemono asked curiously, as Daichi started to head toward where the orbs were. Since Kemono had her arm wrapped around her son's neck she easily felt that her son wanted to head in the direction of the orbs, so she decided to accompany him.

"I think one of those contains a Skill, while the other contains a weapon. At least, that the what our Level 2 Zombie had left for us" Daichi shrugged. They could still hear the gunshots coming from the other side of the bridge. Even though Kemono had rampaged over the bridge, she had only been able to kill a quarter of the whole horde.

Unfortunately, the horde was restoring their numbers. The people who had been bitten by the Zombies were slowly joining the ranks of the Zombie horde. There were nearly a thousand people who were stuck on the bridge. A few brave people among them must have jumped into the river as soon as the horde had pinned them on the bridge, and a lot more of them had followed their example. That was the best survival plan, and their only real chance at survival.

Some of the people who had dared to jump into the river might have died, but most of them had probably survived even though they were swept away by the current. If they were lucky they might have washed up somewhere nearby or they would probably arrive in someplace that is crawling with Zombies.

Daichi and Kemono arrived in front of the orbs and Daichi picked one of them while Kemono picked up the other. Due to the resounding gunshots, the Zombies who were approaching Daichi and Kemono had decided to return their attention toward the cops on the other side of the bridge. Daichi had no idea what sort of orders they had received but it seemed that they were pretty determined to hold the bridge. From Kemono and Roberta, Daichi knew that the other side of the bridge was also bustling with Zombies, so he couldn't understand why they were so determined on holding the bridge.

By trying to hold the bridge they were simply dooming themselves. After all, the sounds of gunshots were bound to attract the Zombies from the other side too. So, there was a high chance that another horde would be formed on the other side, and when that horde arrived, the cops would be pinned on the bridge just like the civilians. Daichi simply shook his head… He wasn't naive enough to think that he could save everyone.

Daichi's attention returned to the screen in front of his eyes…

Daichi released a sigh in disappointment… "What did you get?" Daichi questioned his mom, who gave him a toothy grin and handed over the orb to him…
