Michael had smiled at Elise's antics, but it was instantly wiped away by reality.
In front of him was a man that was lying on the ground. He was gripping his arm in confusion, in a physical state of shock. The man himself was Tweak, aka Eloguent.
Here's a breakdown of what just happened.
While the three Brawlers were bashing Eloguent for his—mildly worse than usual—fetish, Grey had Elise add a gravity attribute to a heavy sticker, referred to as a patch, in his pocket.
He instructed Elise to modify that patch so that gravity would be applied once the object's acceleration, velocity, and rotational force exceeded what a human could produce.
Once that force was applied, it would trigger gravity to increase and snap the center of whatever was holding the weight.
To visualize, imagine that a chain is tied around someone's waist, and the same chain is tied to the back of a bullet train.
The person is running in the opposite direction when the train magically hits its maximum speed of 180 mph instantly.
The chain around the person's waist instantly snaps backward, and their body will snap forwards.
[That is what just happened.]
Michael didn't just create a patch with gravity. Instead, he was utilizing the laws of physics to destroy his enemy.
To better understand how he achieved this, it's best to look at an insightful, albeit inaccurate, explanation.
Michael applied the patch to Eloguent's shoulder on the area around the rotator cuff that wasn't part of the exoskeleton.
Imagine that his exoskeleton could lift 1000 pounds, but his shoulder can only lift 80.
When his shoulder had 300 pounds added to it from the patch, his body couldn't handle that weight, let alone rotate his arm.
However, the exoskeleton could, and his arm was already moving unnaturally fast. There was no way that the body could stop the motion. As a result—
His rotator cuff was viciously torn apart, and the bones in his shoulders violently broke apart.
Those effects aren't temporary; they're permanent for life.
If Eloguent logs off right now, he'll be in the same amount of pain, and his arm will never be able to lift an object again.
His nervous system registered the change that just occurred, and it will treat the arm as if it's destroyed.
Since it won't move anymore, the arm will have to be amputated because it's dead weight.
Like all people fighting in the Nerve Network, Michael was causing real harm to his opponents.
However, the way he was doing it was exponentially more ruthless. That's because he was calculating physics in real-time to ensure the most brutal outcome possible would come to pass.
Michael didn't know what Eloguent could lift or how fast the exoskeleton would move.
Had he increased the gravity too high, it would have stopped the motion. But, if it were not enough, it wouldn't harm Eloguent.
That's why he used the patch and Elise to calculate these factors in real-time.
Elise monitors external data from accessories on Michael's body. This includes contacts he was wearing so she could see what he was looking at.
She could calculate acceleration trajectory and estimate physical force with this information.
The patch itself was collecting data on the part of Eloguent's body that it was designed to break.
Elise used the data from the patch to calculate its shape, rotational abilities, and factors such as muscle density to gauge his physical limits.
Once Eloguent swung the cutlass, the gravity applied to his shoulder was the exact amount necessary to produce the worst possible situation.
That's what happened.
The Nerve Network is software where physical items can magically alter the laws of physics.
Unlike The Network, where magic is magic, the moment that an attribute is applied to an object in the Nerve Network, it instantly reverts back to the laws of standard physics.
The level of carnage that's possible by breaking those laws without threat of counter force is endless.
Since you can die here, The Nerve Network is a physics nightmare wasteland.
While rich people treat Dark Paradise as a sadistic playground, Alyx Grey uses the entire world as his amusement park.
