Shadow fruit?

"Where are we going?" I ask. Me and Johan have been flying for what seems like ages.

"The Shadow fruit." Johan says to himself. "James reach your arms out." I do so and feel wood in the form of a chest.

"Do you want me to grab it?" I ask.

"Yes I want you to grab it." I grab it and hold on to it like my life depended on it. "Do not eat this or even look at it. Got it?"

"Yes, but why?"

"That fruit will turn you into one of the most powerful beings in the world. I don't care how great that sounds. You like the water don't you?" Johan says

"Well yeah, who doesn't?" I say

"Anyone who eats one of these fruits." Johan says. "If you eat these or even take a bite you can NEVER go in the water again. The sea devil takes away your ability to swim."

"I would rather never be able to swim and be the most powerful being-."

"NO JAMES!" Johan screams. "YOU WILL NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE EAT THE DAMN FRUIT!" I start shaking. Johan has never yelled at me to this degree before. The heat dies down and the wind stops lashing my face. My guess is we stopped flying. I open my eyes again and my vision is still blurry but not red and not as blurry as before.

"AHHHH PIRATES!" Someone screams.

"WAIT, please help my nephew, please. I'll leave the second you say you will. All he needs is some food, water, and a doctor."

"IT'S A TRAP! KILL THEM KILL THEM BOTH!" Another person screams.

"Help him not me him." Johan says then the hand on my shoulder leaves and so does Johan.

"LOOK HE'S FLYING HE'S A DEVIL FRUIT USER! THEY EXIST!"

"What should we do with the kid?" I hear someone else say.

"I'll take care of him you monsters. Why would you want to kill this kid he's like 7 or 8 and you want to kill him?" A woman says then I feel someone touch my face and wipe something off my face. "Your eyes are bleeding. Hold on tight!" She says then I'm getting picked up. "Are you hungry?" She asks

"Yes."

"How about I make you a sandwich?" She says. "My name is Ruby. What about you?"

"James, my name is James." I say I open my eyes again and it's still blurry.

"Well James do you have any preferences on what type of sandwich you want?" Ruby asks.

"No. Why is my sight blurry?" I ask hoping Ruby's a doctor and knows.

"I don't know why, i'll have to take a look at them. Brace yourself." Ruby says I feel my feet touch the ground. Ruby grabs my hand to lead me around. "Okay let me get a better look. Is it okay if I take your shirt off?" I nod. When she starts taking my shirt off I feel something scraping my chest.

"STOP, STOP, OW!" I scream. Ruby stops pulling on my shirt then leaves to grab something. I feel her cutting my shirt. "HEY THIS IS MY ONLY SHIRT!" I yell.

"And it'll be the last shirt you wear if we don't get this shirt off and get the shrapnel out of your chest." She pulls my freshly cut shirt off and starts poking and picking at stuff in my chest. "Open your eyes." Ruby says. I do and they aren't really that blurry I can just make out a beautiful girl's face. "You have debris in your eyes if you want to see then I'm going to pull them out. Then she grabs a tool with two pointy ends on them.

She grabs my hand again and brings me to a bed to let me lie down or something. "Lay down and do not move." I do so and ever so slowly I see blurry pieces of wood and clumps of sand coming out of my eyes. "You have so much stuff in your eyes what did you do?"

"I was on an adventure with my mom and uncle when we got attacked and had to bank at a village on an island when marines showed up and started blasting and killed multiple people. Then a big ship came up and everyone ran and it started firing all its cannons and blasted everyone in sight including me i guess." Ruby gasps and drops the tool she was using to get stuff out of my eyes.

"Did you see the flag?" Ruby asks frantically.

"All I saw was red and some black."

"Did they follow you?"

"I hope not. I couldn't see anyway." Ruby goes back to taking stuff out of my eyes while she talks.

"Those are the 'Vex Killers' led by Captain Vex. They are the deadliest pirate group since the 'Rocks pirates'."

"There's no way they could follow us though we moved too fast and Johan can take care of them easily."

"James, Captain Vex is the most deadly pirate around he controls 38 ships and is known to hunt down and kill devil fruit users. He also is known to torture anyone his crew captures."

"My uncle killed Captain Ross and 50 of his special troops. He can kill anyone he chooses to including that Vex guy."

"Okay James whatever you say. You're almost done with your eyes and your chest done and bandaged."

"How did I not feel you finished? I would've known." I say.

"You passed out." Rose says giggling a little.

"Either your uncle did some work on those guys like you said or they didn't follow you."

"See I told you. But I wonder where Johan is it's been to long." I say eating the sandwich Ruby said she would make.

"Can you see at all?" Ruby asks.

"Yeah I can make things out enough to where I know what and where it is."

"That's good, you should get some sleep." Ruby says then she shows me her guest room and closes the door after blowing out the lamp.
