"Good morning everyone!" Chris says with a smile on his face. "As you may know today is the first day of class in my new academy 'don't be a dumbass.'" The people in my class look around confused at each other.
"Um Captain?" A huge man says raising his hand.
"What do you want?"
"I don't think any of us knew bout this." He says.
"Yeah I didn't say anything to anyone but the good ol second in command Rick. Well because we're all here we might as well introduce ourselves. You all should know me considering i'm the captain but you guys might not know each other. We'll start with you." Chris says pointing at me.
"What?" I say confused why he chose me.
"Your going to have to introduce yourself in front of the ship anyways considering you're new on the ship might as well know a couple people beforehand."
"Oh uh ok. So i'm James i'm 10 years old." I say embarrassed.
"Alright thank you James. We're gonna go to the right so whoever is closest to the right of James stand up and say your name."
"My name is Lee, and um I'm 22 and uh that's it."
"Hey I'm Braydon, 13." A kid says.
"Parson, 18" A tall skinny man says quickly sitting down.
"Alright thank you all, I'm sure we'll have fun here as long as you do what i say when I say to. At the end you'll take a test that I personally will watch and grade. If you fail you're off the ship, hopefully we'll be at a harbor because if not you're bein thrown of the ship in the ocean to the mercy of the beasts in the sea."
Braydon's eyes go wide as he looks out to the sea.
"But as long as you do what I say you'll be just fine." Chris says. "Our first lesson is going to be learning to fire a musket, flintlock, and cannon. Don't get to excited though if you already know how to shoot one you ain't gonna waste ammo."
"Dammit!" Parson says.
"I know shooting things are exciting but we can't be wasting ammo for experienced shooters."
"So are we going to fire everything?" Braydon asks with some form of sparkle in his eyes that creeps me out.
"Yes Braydon we're going to fire everything." Chris says "which makes me ask, why the hell are we sitting here not shooting things?"
Braydon jumped up and was bouncing from foot to foot. We walk across the deck to a table that has little round balls of lead and packets of gunpowder.
"Braydon you seem very excited show us how it's done." Chris says staring at Braydon with a disapproving glare. His smile disappears and is replaced with confusion as he goes up and grabs the flintlock. Braydon loads the flintlock and holds it up to aim. "You're doing it wrong." Chris says "you're lucky this isn't the test you'd be off the boat in the sea." I look at Braydon's hands and see him holding the gun with his right hand but aiming with his left eye.
"I am?" He asks looking at Chris.
"Yup switch your hands." Chris says taking the gun and giving it back to Braydon this time holding it in his left hand. "Shoot that rock." Chris points at a rock about the size of an average size sail boat.
The gun goes off with a loud pop. and a small geyser of water sprays up before coming back down in the endless amount of water that is the sea.
"Miss to the right, where were you aiming?" Chris asks.
"To the right of the rock, I think it was swaying too much." Braydon says reloading.
"Well you have to compensate for the rock of the boat and also the fact that we're moving to the left relative to the rock. One more shot you miss you're done for the day." Braydon aims again and pulls the trigger for a second time the gun goes off with a loud pop and a small cloud of smoke but this time a little puff of brown dirt comes up from the rock.
"YES!" Braydon says pumping his fist in the air.
"Good shot your turn James." Chris says handing me the flintlock. I try to remember how a villager from my home taught me how to shoot a flintlock. I put the powder in and the ball before packing it down with the ramrod.
"James you have to make sure you don't point the gun down or all the powder and ball will fall down and be useless." The villager says I don't remember his name all I remember was him teaching me to shoot the gun and him getting taken away by the marines to later be executed for murder.
I slowly squeeze the trigger before the gun goes off with a loud pop the cloud of smoke and my arms are thrown upward from the recoil of the gun.
"One hit for James!" Chris says as he takes the gun. "James 1 Braydon 0."
"Dammit!" Braydon says throwing his hands up.
"Captain! Captain!" the lookout says barreling down the deck.
"What's going on?"
"Sir there's a wall of clouds. I don't mean a bunch in the sky I mean a literal wall of dark clouds."
"How far away from it?" Chris asks.
"Sir it's right on top of us." He says before everything becomes pitch black.
