"Why do the main character's parents often get the short end of the stick?"
That is what Mila asked while looking up at the sky. She was grumbling toward whoever sent her inside the novel she read before she died.
She becomes the mother of the main character, whose parents are both dead. Mila's character was merely a tool for the MC's character development.
It's a simple, fix-all solution. The author wanted to make the audience instantly sympathetic towards the main character, and the best thing he did was to have the MC's parents die.

After she avoided her death in the original plot, death flags kept coming for her. 

Will the original plot not end if she's not dead?

Main character's parents must die

"Wow! This world really only consists of one city." Mila exclaimed as she looked down at the edge of the world.

The world is flat. There was only one huge island that was floating alone in space with nothing else around its edges.

Of course, none of the people of that world were aware that there was nothing else beyond their city, as everyone was trapped inside the single city world.

"And it only takes us half a day to look around the whole world!"

"Let's just say city, Mila. It's only a city."

"No. It is basically the whole world. The city alone."

Greyson just let out a sigh at Mila's energy and excitement. He doesn't know where Mila got the energy to get excited and walk around the city even if she didn't have a blink of sleep last night.

"Anyway, surely the others are not here."

Few hours ago, Mila asked Greyson to teach her how to jump from world to world, and surprisingly, Mila learned it within an hour.

"I will destroy other worlds instead."
