Chapter 8

Krista's POV

I looked at the gold bracelet and then at the old lady.

The old lady said faintly, "That bracelet is not the ancestral treasure of the Fischer family. It originally had a pair. My mother took it from her wrist when I married your grandfather. Later, when Cheney's parents got married, I gave this pair of bracelets to my daughter-in-law. It's a pity... later, these two heartless people let me send the white-haired people to the black-haired people, and the bracelets returned to my hands. One of them, when your eldest brother and sister-in-law got married, I gave it to your sister-in-law Cheney, and this one is for your wife. Today is the first time we met Krista. Although this gift is light, it is from the bottom of my heart. Please accept it."

I once again set my eyes on the gold bracelet, stood up and took it from Uncle Jacob's hand with great care. "Thank you Grandma, I will cherish it."

The old lady looked at me, smiled and said to Cheney, "Why don't you put it on your wife?"

Cheney helped me put on the bracelet.

For the first time, I was embarrassed. "Grandma, I am not a wife though."

The old lady got up. "It will be soon. Eat slowly. I'm going to choose a good day for you both with your grandfather."

After the old lady left, I breathed and looked at Cheney. "Why don't you put away this bracelet first?"

Cheney clasped the bracelet on my wrist. "Why should I put away what my grandma gave you? Why don't you take it first? Are you full?"

"I'm full."

He said, "Then you and Sara will go to my place to have a rest first. I have some things to do. I will leave later."

So with what he said, I nodded and left with Sara.

Cheney's POV

I looked at Uncle Jacob and said, "Uncle Jacob, come out with me for a minute."

Uncle Jacob said respectfully, "All right, second young master."

Leaving the Plum Court, we came to the gazebo on Lake Bibo in the front yard.

I sat down and looked at Uncle Jacob and said, "Uncle Jacob, you too."

"Second young master, I'd better stand."

"There are no outsiders here. Do you want to continue to see me as your master?"

Uncle Jacob hesitated and sat down opposite me.

"About my marriage..." I hesitated for a moment and looked at him. "I hope you don't mind. Even if I get married, you are still the most important relative to our Fischer family."

"Second young master, how can I mind? I watched you grow up and saw you get married. I am very happy for you, and I am also happy for my Master and his wife. After all… you have been waiting for this day for a long time."

"Uncle Jacob," I sighed, got up, walked to the pavilion, and looked at the flowers not far away. "I'm sorry, but I can't fulfill some promises after all."

"Second young master, I know, it's not your fault. You are a good man. You have done enough for us. Really, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. It's Flora... she can't have a blessing like this anymore. I think Miss Krista is very clever and has won the heart of the old lady. In the future, you will live well. Everything that happened in the past should be let go, and what should be forgotten should be forgotten."

I didn't say anything.

Uncle Jacob stood up and looked at me. "Second young master, don't keep Miss Krista waiting too long, go back early, and I will go to work first."

"Hmm." I replied faintly, and Uncle Jacob turned and left.

The surroundings are quiet again. I look at my own shadow reflected on the lake, and my eyebrows are slightly puckered. "Flora, I have held you. After too long, my grandparents are not young. I know what they want. How can I always make them feel sorry for me? So now, I must let go of you and live a new life. You will bless me, right? "

Krista's POV

After leaving the Fischer's mansion this afternoon, Cheney and I went to his company to process the contract at the Dragon Bridge. After that, I took a taxi back to the Brennan group.

Because half an hour ago, I got a call from Brent.

Arriving at the president's office of the Brennan group, Brent and my mom Delia were there.

Seeing me, my mother got up directly and walked up to me.

She took my hand in both hands. "Krista, why don't you answer your phone?  I've been calling you. Do you know how worried I was about you?" She asked, looking worried.

"What do you want me to do? I know very well in my heart that I can't do what you want me to do. Therefore, why should I answer my phone and annoy both of us?"

"Krista, please, listen to my advice for once, and you should leave Cheney quickly, otherwise... you will not only be pointed at in your life, but also lose the home you have now. I have been forced to lose my family once. This time, I really don't want to bear it again, just think of it as your mother begging you..."

I looked at my mother with a humble face.

I can understand my mother's fear, but I will never stop looking for the truth of my father's death. What's more, this "home" has never been the home I want.

My mother doesn't understand how miserable I am in this family.

Brent said, "Delia, go home first. I have something to talk about with Krista."

Brent, who is in his fifties, has the same "kindness" on his face as before, but only I know how disgusting this "kindness" is.

"Brent..."

"Go back first and listen to me." Brent winked at my mother.

My mother sighed and let go of my hand. "Krista, no matter what, I don't want you to go in the wrong direction."

I didn't look over my head and didn't look at her.

Not sooner after my mom left, Brent got up and walked to me.

I took two steps back.

He stepped in front of me and reached out and took my shoulder.

I wanted to get rid of it, but Brent didn't let go.

His other hand squeezed my chin. "Krista, you have grown up and your wings are hard, haven't you?"

At that moment he looked at my eyes again, not so loving, but infected with a nasty and disgusting look.

"Did you sleep with Cheney?"

I looked at him calmly. "Yes, I'm Cheney's woman now, so you'd better keep your hands and feet off me."

I tried to get his hands off me and pushed him, but he didn't move. He leaned close to my ear. "I tried my best to raise you as a baby, but you let others open the bud. Guess how disgusting I can be now."

He held me in his arms. "Do you really think that with Cheney, you can get rid of me? What, you don't want to care about your mother?"

I looked at him with a cold-eye, and my eyes are as unruly as ever.

"My mother is your woman now, and it's not me, it's you who should take care of her. Don't you always like to win the public's favor with you by being kind to my mother and your daughter? Unless you don't want to continue to be a good businessman in the public's eye."

"Not bad, Krista, after living with me for a few years, you already know my weakness, but do you think I still need to put it on the bright side if I want to torture your mother?"

My eyes were cold and I clenched my fist. "What do you want?"

"It's very simple. You just have to leave Cheney honestly and come back to be my 'Good Daughter'. Then, I can let bygones be bygones for what happened before you and Cheney, otherwise..."

I clenched my fist. "Brent, you are disgusting."

"In the whole world, only you dare to say so." He had a wry smile on his face.

I raised my chin with a firm look in my eyes. "I won't leave Cheney, and you won't touch my mother, Uncle Brent. One thing, I have to thank you. Since I lived in the Brennan family, I have learned to do anything to protect myself. Do you think I will do nothing after you harassed me so many times?"

Brent's eyes flashed. "What did you do?"

I laughed. "Guess."

He looked at me maliciously and said, "Tell me."

I curled the corner of my pie mouth and made no sound.

His eyes slightly raised, "You are deceiving me."

"So Uncle Brent, do you want to try? If I put this chip out, will you lose your reputation because you covet your stepdaughter?"

"You recorded the video?"

I smiled and indirectly certified his words.

He grabbed me by the neck. "Do you want to die?"

I closed my eyes and my face was pinched blue. I thought that he would really crush me impulsively.

Unexpectedly, he suddenly let go of his hand.

I coughed twice and looked at him maliciously.

"As long as you don't touch my mother and interfere with me and Cheney, then you are still my 'good stepfather ', otherwise..."

I took a step forward. "You will definitely not like it. Anyway, I have nothing to lose, but you, oh, the Brennan group could collapse, Aww... must be miserable."
