Chapter 18

Krista's POV

I didn't know how to face him. I sat in the bathroom for half an hour before I came out again. Cheney was no longer in bed. There was a note left by the bed. I went over and picked it up.

The note said, "I’ll give you one last chance to choose. Tonight, you should calmly consider whether our marriage should continue or end. Starting tomorrow, I will move back to my old house. If you choose to continue, I will return to the Fischer's mansion tomorrow night. If you give up, then you don't have to show up. See you at the Civil Affairs Bureau the day after tomorrow morning."

I put down the note and sat in the bed, my heart was in a mess.

The next day, I got up at dawn.

I didn’t sleep well, I seemed to wake up every time, and I also had nightmares, which made me more tired.

I went directly to the construction site after dealing with some trivial things.

Rashad arrived at the construction site at ten o'clock on time, and I knew he had come to find fault with me. But I'm so tired today that I'm really not in the mood to talk to him.

I walked to the side of the cement bag and sat down directly.

He got up and approached. "You look tired, telling us all that you overexerted with my second uncle last night? Hey, I really want to see what state my second uncle is in now. Have you squeezed him dry?"

I squinted at him. "Rashad, stay away from me."

He smiled bitterly, "Why are you ashamed? How good can a woman accused by her own mother be? My uncle's family even regarded you as a treasure. Oh, now, it is estimated that they will disgust you."

I'm even more annoyed to hear him mention my mother.

Not far away, Quincy came up to us. He said unhappily, "This is a construction site. If you don't want to work, please leave and don't influence others here."

After saying that, he looks at me. "Come here and look at the pile foundation over there."

I nodded.

When Quincy leaves, I get up and look at Rashad and sneer at him. "So what if people all over the world accuse me, betray me and laugh at me? Anyway, I am a bad woman, and I don't care about other people's arguments at all."

At noon, I was going to go back to the company, but Otto, who had just arrived from the company, stopped me.

He pulled me aside and whispered, "What do you want to get, I'll get it for you. Today, you don't need to go to the company. There are many reporters around the door of the company, all scrambling to interview you."

I was silent for a moment, drooping my eyes and smiling. "I was going back to get some material quantity tables. It's okay. It doesn't matter if I don't take them. Anyway, those numbers have already been recorded in my mind."

Otto nodded. "OK, what do you need anyway? Tell me and I'll get it."

"Otto, may I ask you a question?"

"Ask away."

"Well. You should have seen the news, and you should know whose daughter I am. Everyone else avoids me. Why are you treating me like one of your own?”

Otto whispered, "Do you know who my idol is?"

I wondered and shook my head.

"Your father." Otto said with a smile.

I was surprised. "Don't you know what happened to my father?"

Otto said, "Of course I know, but it doesn't affect my love for a great bridge designer. When I was in college, my professor often took the pontoon bridge in the Moon Lake as an example to explain some knowledge to us. Because of this pontoon bridge, I learned about the existence of Mr. Samuel and looked through many of his successful cases.

At that time, the Cross River Bridge had an accident, which I also thought was a pity, but in my opinion, it was not all his own responsibility. After all, it was a matter of teamwork. I remember Mr. Samuel once said that no one took credit for building a bridge. In other words, the failure should not be borne by him alone? "

I looked at Otto, and my eyes turned red. For many years, when people mentioned the name Samuel, they were full of abuse, but today... Otto touched me.

I breathe, Otto... I must win it over as soon as possible.

After work in the afternoon, I stayed at the construction site until seven o'clock before returning to the hotel.

Cheney didn't come back.

I sat on the sofa, thinking about what Cheney left last night.

The right to choose... He gave it to me, but I had no choice.

Downstairs, I took a taxi to the Fischer's mansion.

I said hello to my grandparents first, but only Grandma and Afra were there.

Grandma asked, "Where's Cheney? Didn't he come back with you?"

I wonder, Cheney didn't come back?

"No, we agreed to go back to the Fischer's mansion from today. I came back directly from the construction site. He should be back soon."

Seeing that it was almost eight o'clock and Cheney hadn't come back yet, I took out my cell phone and planned to call him.

As a result, the headline of that day automatically pushed the newly released news, and the content was actually related to me.

I was somewhat surprised when I opened the news.

The reason why he didn't come back, turned out to be for an interview?

He actually told reporters that the person he originally wanted to marry was me, and he often attended events with Zaniyah only out of politeness, because Zaniyah was my stepsister.

His past behavior has caused others and even my family to misunderstand his relationship with Zaniyah, so he has come forward to clarify it now, hoping that everyone will not hurt me with words. If he sees similar false reports in the future, he will take legal measures to safeguard my interests.

I can't figure out why he wants to help me.

Half an hour later, Cheney came back.

I thought about it and stepped forward. "The news... I've seen it."

"Hmm."

He responded with an indifferent voice.

"Why do you want to help me? Aren't you afraid that my final choice is not to go back to the Fischer's mansion? If I don't come back, then we have to go to the Civil Affairs Bureau to get a divorce certificate tomorrow. At that time, what would happen to you?"

He still ignored me.

I am depressed, "You have already helped me, why ignore me? Last night... last night, we all had something wrong, didn't we?"

He put down his chopsticks and said quietly, "You answer me a question first."

I nodded. "Well, as long as you don't ask why I married you, I can answer any other questions."

"What did you do that night to cause allergies?"

I thought about it. Now that I have made a choice, there are some things I must be honest with him before investigating the truth, so as to win his trust. I stood up, went to the bathroom, took out the waterproof small paper bag inside, and gave it to him. "This is not medicine; it is the powder pressed out of mango chips."

He threw the bag aside, looked at me, and said coldly, "So, you made up your mind from the beginning to deal with me in this way?"

I feel guilty and hang my eyes. "Sorry, I...”

"Last night, I gave you a chance. Today, you walked into the Fischer's mansion by yourself. It's your own decision."

I clenched my fist and nodded my head.

"Very good, then you listen up, I will only say this once. From then on, whether you like it or not, Krista was born to be with me, and if you die, you can only be my ghost. If you set me up in this way of hurting yourself again, I will definitely not spare you. Since you have decided to stay with me, I will naturally stand by your side unconditionally. My woman, I will take care of it, understand? "

Although this kind of bully general quotation is very secondary, I am very touched. At least I heard it and felt very safe.

I was silent for a moment and then said, "Cheney, I want to... ask you something."

"Ok."

"Can you give me a little more time? That matters, I really..."

"You don't want to do it with me because you have someone in your heart?"

I shook my head. "No, it's not what you think, I just... can't do it."

He said coldly, "The night you climbed into my bed, you were very enthusiastic."

"I drank the wine you drank that night."

He frowned. "What happened to you?"

I shook my head and said nothing. Fortunately, he didn't continue to ask.

He knew her personality, and if she didn't say it, she wouldn't answer even if he asked.
