Chapter 20

Cheney's POV

In the afternoon, just after coming out of the conference room, Milo came to report, "Sir, this morning, Miss Krista's mother went to the construction site of the Dragon Bridge and heard that she also beat Miss Krista in public."

That woman is looking for trouble, how dare she hit my woman, and some people didn’t even help?

I impatiently threw my pen on the table, I looked at Milo and said, "Go and find out what other projects the Brennan group has now besides the Dragon Bridge project, and cut it off for me. If Brent comes to the company to find me, you can tell him directly that this is the end of his bad discipline of his woman to my wife."

"Yes."

"Also, get a paparazzi."

Krista's POV

At four o'clock in the afternoon, I was still busy. I didn't expect Cheney to come to the construction site to find me and said he would take me out to dinner.

I had to leave work early. Get dressed, put on my wedding ring and his wedding ring as he asked, and get in the car. The driver drove us to the western restaurant where we had dinner last time.

The two steaks were soon served. He cut his own, pushed it straight in front of me, pulled mine over, and ate gracefully while cutting.

I looked at the neat steak cut by him and was stunned.

Why is he so abnormal today?

"I heard that Rashad has been wandering around the construction site recently looking for you?"

I shrugged and looked at Cheney. "Rashad, he comes almost every day, but... I don't think he's picking on me, because I don't take him seriously at all."

"Let me know if he dares to find fault with you again."

"No, I am not a three-year-old child. I have to go home and tell my father that I can cope with people like Rashad."

After dinner, Cheney settled the bill, and the driver sent us to the Royal Club.

This is one of the most upscale private clubs in City A.

When Cheney took me into the private room, there were still two men sitting in it. Seeing them, Cheney punched them, which was regarded as a greeting.

He looked back at me. "You should know these two."

I nodded to them. "Hello, Mr. Arthur, Mr. Bennett, I'm Krista."

Arthur is the owner of the Royal Club. He is friends with Cheney, Bennett and Elmer. Because their families monopolize almost all industries and master most of the whole business circles of City A, the four of them are called the four little ones of City A.

Cheney's POV

"Krista and I got the license last Friday. We have been trying to find time to get together with you these days, just to talk about this."

Arthur raised his eyebrows at me. "Your brothers are still alone, so you succeeded in taking off the list? This has to be celebrated. Come and have a drink."

I thought Krista would say no, but she was very cooperative and raised her glass.

I took off the glass in her hand and put it back on the table. "My grandparents are waiting to hold their great-grandchildren."

Arthur smiled. "Are you pregnant?"

"Whether she is pregnant or not. It is still a mystery." I offered them a toast.

While chatting, Krista's cell phone rang.

She got up and said to me, "I'll go out and answer the phone."

I glanced at her cell phone. "Go ahead."

After she went out with her mobile phone, Arthur said, "Cheney, are you serious?"

I looked at him, "Why? Marriage is such a thing. I don’t joke around with marriage."

Arthur frowned. "You married Krista. What about Flora? Have you thought about her?"

I raised the goblet and was silent for a moment before saying, "There is nothing to put down. First love and marriage can't be confused."

Arthur looked at me. "So, are you serious about this marriage?"

"I don't plan to change people halfway. I will live with her in my life."

Arthur shook his head. "A lifetime... It feels so long. You bet your whole life on that woman, but do you love her?"

I laughed, "Love or not, marriage is not like this, no matter how good the feelings are, after a long time of marriage, they will not become family ties. Krista is smart. When I get along with her, it makes me very comfortable. I think this is enough."

"Cheney, if you don't watch videos and photos, do you remember Flora?"

I looked at Bennett. "Do you think I will forget her?"

He nodded. "Yes."

I shook my head. "No."

"At first, we were all very sure that the person we loved at that time was right. However, when everyone is separated for a long time, we will slowly discover that in fact, feelings are like this, and true lovers will not be separated." Bennett sighs.

Arthur shook his head. "Bennett, Cheney and Flora didn't separate because they didn't have feelings."

"What do you mean by fate?" Bennett calmly said, "If Flora is really Cheney's right person, they have known each other since childhood and should have been together long ago. But they have experienced so much together and finally failed to get together. Don't you think this is because the destined person hasn't appeared yet?"

I know he is trying to persuade me to cherish the people in front of me. I’m sure I can remember Flora. How can I forget her?

But... it's true that I seldom think of Flora recently.

Krista's POV

Standing in the doorway, I picked up my cell phone and Zaniyah roared, "Krista, you're crazy to expose Matt and me."

I leaned against the wall and a smug smile appear on my lips. "This is what happened when you threatened my mother against me, Zaniyah. Stop struggling. Now, it's not that I won't let go of Cheney, it's that he won't let go of me, so no matter what you do, you can't get Cheney. Admit it, you are a loser."

"Cheney will never love you. Do you know why?"

"I don't want to know."

"Because he already has someone in his heart."

It's not the first time I've heard this. Rashad said before that Cheney would not fall in love with me, and even Zaniyah knew about it.

I shrugged. "As long as the person in his heart is not you, it doesn't matter to me."

"You're really leaving your mother alone, aren't you?"

When I think of my mother's slap to me this morning, my eyes turn colder. "She did not hesitate to stab me for you, so that's your mother, not mine. Don't try to use her to control me. I, Krista, is no longer the weak little girl before. You people in the Brennan family throw me far away, so far away."

After I said what I needed to say, I hang up the phone.

After standing at the door for more than ten minutes, I calmed down and turned back to the private room.

On the way home, Cheney asked, "Why is Zaniyah calling you?"

"How do you know it was her."

He raised his eyebrows. "I saw the caller ID. What did she say to you?"
