A tear rolled down his cheek and my heart broke for him. I shuffled up the couch and threw my leg over him, so that I was now sitting on his lap. He looked up at me and smiled half-heartedly, before continuing, 


“I told myself that I had no choice. Not that I believed it then, any more than I believe it now. I staked them both, to keep my brood safe, and to keep my secret. I knew Kali would tell my brood that I’d killed my father and I couldn’t let that happen.”
