I Lost My Memory

-Your POV-

Y/N had successfully managed to avoid the golden trio on Wednesday. Everytime she saw one of them, she quickly sneaked away, not in the mood to face any questions.

First, she wanted to figure out for herself how she'd proceed.

She liked Draco, a lot. Or rather: She liked the Draco she got to see when they were both alone. But there were so many doubts. Many of his morals and views didn't match hers at all. He was so full of negativity, how could she just ignore that?

And even if she managed to ignore all his flaws and the turn-offs, would Draco ever like her as well?

Y/N had asked Helena about Draco's past relationships and found out that there really was nothing except for the fact that he went to last year's Yule Ball together with Pansy. But they were never caught snogging or even flirting. They were just friends.

And not dating was one thing but Helena also told her that there had never been rumors about him having a crush on anyone, which at a school full of teenagers was not really normal.

What if Draco Malfoy was simply not interested in romance? What if even if he ended up liking Y/N, he'd never make the first step? Because she surely was too scared to.

So maybe falling for him was really the last thing she should be doing.

But it was already way too late.

Yesterday, Y/N had sat with him and his friends for dinner again, hoping to make this a regular thing. She even managed to get some words out of Blaise which Draco watched with amusement.

But talking to Blaise was even less enjoyable than being teased by Pansy and Y/N gave up quickly.

Right now she had just finished lunch with about half an hour left before Charms class which Slytherin shared with Ravenclaw.

She decided to get some quiet time in the common room when-

"Y/N!"

She turned around in the middle of the hallway to see who had called out her name. It was Ron Weasley.

'Dammit! Not now!'

She thought about which excuse to use. Maybe she needed to go to the bathroom? But Y/N realized that she couldn't keep running away forever and all the lying started to pull on her moral code.

"Can we talk?"

With a quiet sigh she walked over to the ginger and then followed him to the library.

Harry and Hermione were sitting on one of the sofas in the corner and looked up as the two approached.

"Y/N!" Hermione seemed surprised and exchanged a quick glance with Harry.

"I saw her in the hallway so I thought maybe now is a good time to talk about things," Ron explained as he sat down as well.

Y/N stood there awkwardly and looked around to see if there were any other students nearby. Sadly, the library was pretty empty. They could ask her anything without the fear of someone overhearing private details.

Knowing that she had no choice, Y/N fell down on an armchair.

"You lied to me," Hermione stated. She didn't look sad or angry as she said that. Her expression was almost provocative.

"I didn't lie, I said the truth."

"Then what was that yesterday after dinner?" Harry asked. Judging from his eyes, he really didn't trust Y/N. And it somewhat hurt.

"I...I thought I couldn't stand him. But then he suggested to show me around and I decided to give him another chance. Afterall, his name is all I have."

"What do you mean?" Hermione asked.

Y/N started fumbling with her fingers. She looked down.

"I haven't told you the whole story. I...you see...I lost my memory."

The three friends looked at each other confused.

"Your memory? How?" Ron wanted to know.

"I don't know!"

"You don't know?"

Y/N shook her head as she tried to figure out how to explain it. "It was maybe two months ago when I woke up inside a house I didn't recognize. A woman came inside and introduced herself as my mother. She said I had an accident and when she realized that I didn't remember her, she started crying."

Y/N closed her eyes to remember her mother's face.

"I felt so lost and confused. They said it was an Obliviate charm someone cursed me with, someone very evil. Then they decided that I should relocate and go to Hogwarts so that whoever attacked me couldn't find me."

The Gryffindors were listening to every single word that came out of her mouth. Y/N felt how tears were crawling up her eyes.

"Almost everything is gone! When I try to remember things, I only see fragments. Nothing fits together. I don't remember anything from my old school, not even the teachers' names. Only what it looked like and what house I was in. And now I'm here and the only tangible and real piece of my past is Draco's name. He has to have something to do with my memory loss! There has to be a connection!"

Once she was done, Y/N was crying and wiped her eyes with the sleeve of the black and green cape.

The corner of the library was silent for a little while. Then Harry opened his mouth.

"Why didn't you tell us sooner?"

"Well, how do you explain something when you don't even understand it yourself?"

The image of her parents kept floating in her mind. If only they had come with her.

"And do you have any idea who attacked you? Was it maybe a Death Eater?"

Y/N shook her head. "I don't know. Maybe?"

She thought for a second. "At least I know what that is, huh?" Her attempted joke sounded sad and she let out a small sob.

"Y/N."

Hermione leaned forward and grabbed her hand. The Slytherin managed to look up at her.

Hermione looked worried, her mouth opened but closed again. Then she finally managed to speak.

"You should know that Malfoy's father is a Death Eater. And maybe Malfoy will...you know."

Y/N's heart dropped. "No."

She couldn't believe what she had just heard. The boy she had fallen for was...

"Maybe that is the connection you are looking for."

She shook her head. "No, it can't be."

"Y/N." Harry looked at her urgently. "This is why we told you to stay away from him and his friends."

She narrowed her eyes. "So you just want me to accept the fact that I lost all my memory and move on like nothing happened even though I could possibly find out how to get it back?"

Harry stayed silent.

The blonde girl opened her mouth instead. "No. But it's dangerous. We can help you find out-"

"Hermione, we've got other things to do," Harry interrupted her. He sounded almost angry and Y/N realized that compared to whatever they were busy with, her problem was unimportant.

She pulled her hand out of Hermione's and got up. Her face was cold.

"Don't bother. I can do this on my own."
