Chapter 47: Till Our Last Breath

The inferno roared toward them!

Shudon raised her staff, green light shining from her eyes!

"Mother Bear!" she screamed. "Father Weasel! If you can hear me in the slightest, all the way from the lands of my ancestors, help me now to fight the tyrant who burns the forests, who takes more than his share and bows to no other master!"

The fire reached them.

It hurt.

For the first time in a long while, Durri felt genuine pain.

Perhaps dragon fire was more magical than the natural sort, and that magic gave it a malicious effect that surpassed the ordinary capabilities of Durri's body.

Whatever the reason, it hurt.

But then it hurt less.

Durri had reflexively turned away and clenched his eyes shut.

Now he looked back and saw Shudon standing tall, staff raised high in both hands.

A dozen spectral figures, humans and beasts alike, stood around her, shimmering with green-blue light.
