Chapter 17: Honor Betrayed

Tama came over to Vesta and tapped her head.

“Get your helmet. Condra Tae wants you to have the translator,” Brille said stiffly.

Vesta watched as Tae’s crew assembled and prepared to leave the space jet. Each member had a small weapon attached to the thigh. Unbuckling from her seat, Vesta dashed off to collect her helmet. On her return, she found her father in a fresh suit, helmet, and bothering Rolet for a weapon.

“Dad,” Vesta rolled her eyes. “You don’t need that.”

“You never know…” her father mumbled.

Rolet gave Vesta a humoring grin and pulled the lever for the door. As it opened, Rolet and Gritcha went first, followed by Vesta and Rycer, Brille and Jesse, and finally by Tama.

“Keep aware of Vesta,” the commander said under his breath.

They descended the stairs of the jet and were met by the company Brille had mentioned.

A group of outerworld beings stood in front of the jet. Their black, form-fitting uniforms mirrored Condra Tae’s.
