Chapter 20: Threats and Promises

Winston-Salem was ready to party. Bodies lined the sidewalks on both sides of the road to the hotel. Live, pulsing blood auras drowned out the brightness of the sun and made me dizzy as the tour bus passed.

Leaning against Anthony on the bench seat, I stared through the window and tried to focus on the homemade signs and ridiculous t-shirts the fans wore, anything to distract me from the raging distress spilling from my partner.

Anthony understood what Wulf and I told him but couldn’t accept it. The chaos of his thoughts was driving me crazy. More than once during the nearly three-hour drive, I’d been tempted to spell him, just to get a little peace. He needed to process it, though, and I knew that. There was some underlying doubt he’d even be susceptible to spelling.
