Saved by a crossdressing princess

Clark just stared at the unfamiliar ceiling as his brain regained feeling in his body. He felt pain from every corner of his body. It was a strangely familiar but unfamiliar feeling to him. He has never had an injury before. However, it was similar to his first heartbreak, to the day he found he was adopted, or when he lost everything. Memories came back to him, worsening his pain and crushing the spirit he was able to muster up. Pushing back the tears, he stood up to examine where he was.

Bandages covered his body, green veins radiating from the exposed parts of the skin. Someone had taken the green crystals out of his skin.

He knew whatever it was, had weakened him significantly. He felt like he was a human. He felt vulnerable and afraid. He didn't like this feeling at all. He desperately searched for the power that he always felt from the depth of his body. The power that always protected him. It was gone. He flopped back to the bed, making some noise.

A woman entered the room in a hurry. She spoke in a language unknown to Clark and immediately checked his body. The intrusion felt uncomfortable, but Clark felt the caring vibe from the woman. Whoever she was, she had no hostility.

After she knew Clark hadn't opened any of his wounds. She said something Clark could only understand as a reprimand from her body language. She left for a moment and came back with a tray of food. Clarks senses rejoiced with the smell of freshly baked bread, roasted meats, and vegetables. He found himself feeling a hunger he has never felt. The caring vibe from his caretaker and the bottomless hunger, made Clark forget his current circumstances and allowed him to eat his fill.

After dinner, Clark received a set of clothes. Then his caretaker motioned him to follow her. Clark walked out of his smaller room towards a luxury building akin to a palace. He was escorted through what could be described as the back door of the palace to a marble-floored milky white room. Its window wall provided ample lighting as well as a clear view for the guards hidden throughout the palace. The rest of the walls were adorned by floor to ceiling high bookshelf with books arranged too neatly for it to have ever been used.

The table in the middle had two chairs on either side. One of which was already occupied by a young girl who had her hands clasped on her face. Her curious gaze was locked on Clark. She was surrounded by about a dozen guards whose posture and placement made Clark question whether they were there to protect her or to keep her from escaping.

Clark was motioned to sit in the chair opposite to her. She tried to stand up but the guard beside her already had a hand on her shoulder, which earned him a stern glare from the girl.

The girl spoke to him, with probably the same language as the caretaker. Even though he couldn't understand her his Kryptonian brain, not weakened by the green crystals, was already piecing together what he heard. He could understand the girl spoke with pride, not from an aristocrat but from a cheeky brat who achieved something unimaginable to her. Her tone alternated between pride, pity, and fear. At some point, the guard turned to her and reprimanded her with a stern tone.

However, it wasn't enough to dampen her excitement. She rambled on again with even more gusto as if the guard's reprimand was a compliment.

"Where am I?" Clark spoke for the first time. His question earned a frown from everyone in the room. The girl asked something back from him.

"I don't understand you," Clark responded.

It dawned on her that she had been rambling on to someone who understood nothing at all.

...….

Sabrina was excited. She had finally met the handsome young man she saved in the quiet forest.

She was so excited that she rambled on about her adventure to him. Things she hasn't said to her uncle or the guards.

She was originally the daughter of the city lord of Green city. But once the city fell she had migrated with the citizens to Peaceful city. Her uncle who was the city lord was happy to provide shelter to his brother, his family, and his powerful forces. Sabrina found it strange that her father could save all of his trusted aids even when the city fell. She was surprised that none of the corrupted officials made it to Peaceful city.

She had escaped her protection one time. She just wanted to see the denizens of the green city again. She dressed up as a young man from the green city looking for work and mingled among the refugees. Before long she was hired to a group of bandits who were led by a small-time corrupt minister from the green city. The bandit group had already claimed territory in the silent forest and Sabrina was amazed by the amount of loot they had collected. Having the skills to dismantle monsters and her knowledge of the green city which resonated with the TL. She easily integrated into the team.

It was after seeing the horrifying acts committed by the bandits did she realized that she needed to escape from the group. That's when she saw the boy. Out of pity and other feelings she won't dare to mention, she escaped with Clark. She didn't dare to mention the horror she witnessed after leaving the bandits to die. She was scared that gloating about escaping would somehow anger whatever was responsible for that.

After recounting her adventure she looked at the boy with a look that said 'praise me'.

The boy asked something in an unknown language. She frowned and asked, "Do you speak the human common language?" The boy still responded with an unknown language.

She was at a loss. How could he praise me he doesn't understand me.

The guards around her had a different concern. There were only two types of humans that didn't speak the human common language. People who had learning disabilities or shapeshifters.

And the Boys ability to prove that he's the former will decide his life.
