"Logan was a fool and stupid. You can't trust him, but the error was not entirely his own, was it?" The shadow seemed to thicken. "If I were a suspicious master, I would wonder why you did not send my envoy with sufficient magic to bid on the witch from the prince's mate bond. You know very well that their bond can be persuaded by some powerful spell."

"My lord-"

"Stop playing games, Elfar, I know what you are up to, but what bothers me is, why the young witch? Why her? Why not Morgana herself? She is far more powerful than three witches combined." The shadow groaned.

A faint smile touched the elf's unattractive features. It was not that he was indifferent to the pulsing danger in the air. Only a fool would believe that the shadow couldn't reach out and strike him dead. Or worse. But he had spent nearly a century becoming indispensable to his current master. For the moment, he was secure enough.
