Chapter 21

“It is. Mostly. But it is what we do to live. We might be more fortunate than humans but that does not mean we feel like we are. It is a complicated life where beings like us can either avoid death or succumb to it. Lots of incidences causes us to realize the truth of our unusual anatomy but,” he lets go of me and sighs, meeting my gaze, “we are not that different if you think about it.”

“None of us are really different.” I slowly lift my head from his shoulder, wincing at the throbbing in my temples. I rest my head in my hands to try to subside the pain a little before we begin to move again. “We are just different physically and if people were to look into our souls; maybe we could understand each other a bit more.”

“Monsters aren’t meant to be understood. We are meant to be in the shadows, living off fear and terror.”
