I laid on my pile of blankets in the corner of the den, ruminating.
I couldn't sleep today ― not a wink of night's rest.
I did try to sleep but I couldn't.
The fear from those nightmares crept into my mind, forcing me to stay awake.
I kept my mind occupied with thoughts of the past with Cameron, and forlornly, for the first time in years ― I know what his eyes look like.
They weren't gold like ours.
They were sapphire.
"Cameron, what's that?" I asked him, pointing to an unknown rock on the ground.
Cameron smiled, picked it up, and held it in his palm for me to see. "This is a schist rock. It's said that most schist rocks emanate as some type of clay or mud."
"Cool!" I beamed but my attention snapped in the direction of twigs being stepped on. I relaxed when I saw Victor walking toward us, his hands stuffed in his oversized ripped hoodie. "Where were you, Victor?"
"Here and there," Victor sat against the tree, looking away from us.
