Shatterd Dress

I left Mom and Mark and went back to my hotel room to get ready for the final meeting that brought me to San Antonio.

I was still indecisive about what I wanted to do when I got back to Texas, do I attend the wedding? Do I continue working at the office? Do I consider what mom and Andrew had said and work for Andrew instead?

I went to bed without arriving at any decision.

"Good Morning Mr Brown, thank you for meeting with me" I said as the client I was to meet today joined me at the table

"So sorry I'm late, my princess won't let me leave until I gave her a bath myself, but she's a darling I promise"

I could see the joy over his face as he spoke of his daughter. I was my dad's only princess too, I thought

"Not a problem sir, let's look at what we have when you are ready"

"Before that can you do me a favor after the meeting? I know I shouldn't ask you this because it's personal and not work related but I do need your insight"

"How can I be of help sir?"

"Call me Joe, well tomorrow is my princess' birthday and I don't know what to get her, her mom is busy planning the birthday and can't spare sometime to help me pick a gift"

"Not a problem sir, but I don't know what she would like"

"She would love anything that is pink"

"We can decide over a few things after we are done with the meeting then"

"Thank you Miss Melanie"

"Please call me Melanie" I said as I displayed the necessary documents on the table

"That would be all, thank you so much Joe" I said as we finished the meeting

"I'm glad I am purchasing the properties from Mason, now for the birthday girl"

"What does she not have?" I asked

"She has everything" that's the problem with rich kids, you never know what to get for them

"Has she been asking you for anything recently?" I asked finding it difficult to know how to help

"Well while she was having her birth, she kept saying 'Max', when I asked her mom who max was, she said it's a puppy from a cartoon she loves watching, by the way she's four"

"Great, you could get her a puppy then seems she loves it"

"What breed and colour?"

"Let me look up kids cartoon online, and see if I can find one that has Max a puppy in it, then we could check out the breed and colour and get something similar"

"Melanie you are wonderful"

"Seen it, Max is a golden retriever, brown colored" I disclosed happily

"Could you accompany to a pet shop please?"

"Sure"

We left the restaurant where we had the meeting and went to over three different pet shops before we finally got a brown colored golden retriever.

By the end of the puppy hunt, I discovered Joe was happily married to Mildred, and their four year old daughter was Anna, and the wife is currently four months pregnant and they are hoping it's going to be a boy, but they want the gender to be a surprise and wont check until she puts to birth.

I returned to my hotel and had a shower, I was so exhausted and hungry, but I decided to do two things first before I slept, call my mom, and get something to eat.

"Hello mom, how was your trip?" I asked the moment she received the call

"Mel, I didn't know when to call you, our trip was goo, Mark is a bit tired so we will rest today and start sightseeing tomorrow, and it's going to be so much fun. How was your meeting?"

"It was fine mom, got his little princess a puppy for her birthday tomorrow, I'm so exhausted"

"That's nice of you, Mel make sure you eat, you are so thin"

"I'm eating fine mom"

"Have you had lunch?" she asked

"Not yet, but I will as soon as I drop this call"

"If you eat lunch when you should be getting ready for dinner, would you even have dinner?'

"Mom, I can take care of myself, bye" I said dismissing her, I wasn't ready for her sermon on eating three square meals.

I had enough flesh, after all Carl was leaving me to get married to a woman with lesser flesh than I am.

"Mel are you there?" Mom asked bringing me from my thoughts

"What did you say?"

"I said don't go for the wedding, avoid him, it's for your own peace" only if she knew I can't avoid him because the man in question is my boss.

"Yes Mom, thanks, bye now'

"Bye Mel, I love you"

"I love you" from Mom, "I love you" from Mark, but where is the one I want to desperately hear, where is the "I love you Melanie" from Carl?

Why can't he just love me?

I packed my bag the next morning as I checked out of the hotel and got into the cab that would drive me to the airport.

This was the day of the wedding, I hope I make it in time to stop whatever was going on. Carl shouldn't make that mistake.

The wedding was set for 11am, my flight was for 8am, enough time to get to my apartment keep my bags and get to the wedding.

My flight was delayed till 9am, I sat angrily waiting for the hour to come. I couldn't risk taking a road trip, I would not get there in time for the wedding.

Finally it was time for my trip.

I spent the next 58 minutes on air thinking about Carl and I.

Can I stop the wedding?

Is stopping the wedding worth it?

Carl made it clear he does not love me, He went beyond limits to get me in his bed, and I was probably just a slut to him.

As I took a cab back to my apartment, I sat on the bed finally deciding not to go for the wedding. I took a shower and was about to pick a cloth from the closet and go to bed when I took sight of the red dress Carl got for me.

Instantly I sat at the front of my mirror, I did my makeup and curled my hair, styling it to my satisfaction.

I ordered a cab and wore the red dress, picked up my purse and wore my heels and went to the door to my ordered cab, I had a wedding to attend.

I wanted to hear him declare his love to Floral. I wanted to see him kiss her.

Maybe, then I could get it into my brain that he was no longer mine, but he needed to see me looking beautiful for him in the dress he got me, then he could decide if he wanted Floral or me.

I arrived at the garden where the wedding was to take place, I was lat, as I walked into the selected area, many eyes were on me, I did not care, I just needed one man, just one man to look at me.

'Carl look at me, tell everyone here that you love me'

I was screaming in my head.

He turned and looked at me.

"Tell them all that you don't want to marry Floral"

I said in my head as he was still staring at me

I sat, waiting for what next Carl was going to do next.

He smiled at me, looked at Floral, put the ring in her finger and kissed her.

That was it, that was all the answer I needed.

I stood and left the party.

"Melanie wait"

I heard as I was racing out, I held my tears

I turned around and I saw Andrea approaching me

"Andrea, you are back, how was your honeymoon?" I asked trying to cover up my pain

"It was short and great, why are you leaving already? you were late" she asked

"Hmmmm" I was looking for what to say

"I just came in from San Antonio," I explained

"Yes I know, and I wasn't expecting you here, but now that you are here, why not wait till the party is over? Besides you look amazing , your make up shouldn't wait, you could meet someone here you know"

She was saying but all I wanted to do was go home.

"Andrea, this is the most important part of the wedding, and I have witnessed it, what is left is eating and drinking, and since I am not hungry, I should go home to rest"

"You look drained, you need rest, bye then"

I was grateful she did not push the conversation.

I took a cab and went home. Immediately I got inside the house, I took up a pair of scissors and started shredding the red dress while it was still on my body.

I cut out every part of it down until what was left on my body was what looked like a mini blouse.

Looking satisfied with the pieces on the ground, I left the upper part on my body, wore a pair of jeans trousers, picked up my purse and left the apartment.

This is one hell of a drinking day and night, I said as I went in search of a bar.
