Hope Orphanage

"I've certainly missed a lot of calls and messages…"

Zhang Wuji smiled helplessly, looking at the dozens of missed calls and hundreds of unread messages.

Most of the messages were concerns related to his health and well-being. Only a few were information and announcements related to work.

During his hospitalization, Zhang Wuji had been put on a two weeks, and someone else had been assigned as Lin Xinya's road manager.

Currently, Zhang Wuji had no specific role and had to wait for a new assignment.

As such, even if Zhang Wuji went to the company's headquarters, he wouldn't necessarily have any paid work to do.

"No…!"

Zhang Wuji clenched a fist to himself, looking pained and seemingly devastated over the job changes.

The greatest perks of being a road manager were the free car and fuel coverage by the company, regardless of business or private use. Unfortunately, the vehicle belonged to the company and was passed on to Lin Xinya's new road manager.

Zhang Wuji didn't know if the situation was temporary. However, he was unlikely to be Lin Xinya's road manager again, given the public's suspicion over the accident.

'My pure intentions to save my job had been twisted into impure feelings for Lin Xinya. Damn netizens, I curse you all!' Zhang Wuji lamented grudgingly.

Despite his discontent, he still needed to call his bosses and reply to his coworkers, families, and friends.

"Hello, Big Sister Wang? Yes, it's me, Little Brother Zhang. I've already been discharged from the hospital. I'm calling to let you and everyone know that I'm okay now."

"What? Little Brother Zhang?! You're already discharged from the hospital?! How is that possible? Such a big and heavy equipment was dropped on your back! You might have been lucky that it didn't break your back! However, I heard your entire back was swollen and bruised!"

"Hahaha, that's such an exaggeration. Where did you hear that come from, Big Sister Wang? Don't I sound well and lively to you? Anyway, when can I come in for work?"

When Zhang Wuji raised his last question, his pretty chief manager rolled her eyes and almost fainted in anger on the other side of the call.

"You're already on two weeks of paid leave. What the hell do you still want to come in to work for? Are you a workaholic, Little Brother Zhang? You need time to rest and heal your body!"

"Hahaha, I've already recovered enough to move around freely, Big Sister Wang. Even if I can't work, can't I still come in to see you?" Zhang Wuji said jokingly.

"Pah!" Wang Junhua spat before replying with a scolding tone, "If a handsome boy said this to me, this Big Sister would definitely feel happy. But, you? No way! When are you going to remove that ugly ass mole and shave your mustache?"

Zhang Wuji suddenly smiled awkwardly.

Wang Junhua had asked him to get rid of his mole and mustache on multiple occasions. But he was used to his look; he didn't see it making much of a difference even if he did it.

How very wrong he was!

The absence of the mole and mustache made him look handsome and young. In fact, twenty-five was still young. However, the mustache made him look thirty-five.

Wang Junhua would definitely be surprised once she saw the current him.

Zhang Wuji could only smile wryly when he thought back on his foolish self.

Meanwhile, his brief silence made Wang Junhua think her joking words hurt his feelings. As such, she softened her stance.

"Alright, alright. There are no plans for you yet, but I'll let Head Manager Dong know about it and see if he can ask Director Feng to make some sort of arrangement for you sooner."

"Thank you, Big Sister Wang. You're the best. The company treats me so well. I won't feel good if I get paid for doing nothing."

"Yeah, yeah, yeah. Rest up now. I'll let you know once I hear back from Head Manager Dong."

"Mm."

Although the work conditions at Star Entertainment were great, it was still a business with a clear hierarchy.

As such, neither Zhang Wuji or Wang Junhua could contact Director Feng directly. Doing so was taboo since it upset the hierarchy and disrespected their superiors.

They could not reach the bigger bosses without contacting their bosses first.

After hanging up the call, Zhang Wuji was surprised to receive a new call five minutes later.

Caller - Lin Xinya.

Although they had called each other before, they were all strictly business-related. They never shared any friendship beyond work despite working together for six months.

"Hello, Miss Lin? Do you need something from me?"

"Eh? Mister Zhang? No… I just heard you were already discharged from the hospital. I'm sorry it took me so long to reach out to you to say thank you. I wanted to do it in person, but there have been so many things going on since the accident. Sorry, Mister Zhang…"

Lin Xinya sounded very depressed and guilty over the matter, but Zhang Wuji didn't blame her even if she didn't feel grateful toward him.

After all, he saved her for himself, not because of any special feelings he might have toward her.

Being involved in the entertainment industry, he had seen many beautiful women and handsome men, some of which were even involved in scandals and controversies.

What people see on TV isn't what they would always see in reality.

Zhang Wuji was well aware that people like idols and celebrities always had at least two faces to wear. As such, it would take more than a pretty face to make him fall for them.

Nevertheless, Lin Xinya seemed to feel bad about missing the opportunity to thank him in person. She had her own difficulties.

While Zhang Wuji has been happily sleeping in Shenxing First Hospital for the past three days, the entertainment world has experienced a major storm. The accident at the Spring Music Concert had truly put great pressure on the Dream Productions Group.

Not only did it receive criticism and condemnation from Lin Xinya's fans and the general public, but Star Entertainment also launched a lawsuit against it. If that wasn't bad enough, its businesses were further suppressed by an enraged Lin Group.

As Zhang Wuji suspected, Lin Xinya's background wasn't simple. Nevertheless, that wasn't any of his concern.

After his call with Lin Xinya ended, Zhang Wuji called Mother Su, the caretaker at Hope Orphanage.

"Wuji! You've finally called me back! Are you alright?! Where are you right now?! I saw the news! Please tell me you are okay!"

Without any surprise, Zhang Wuji was immediately flooded with words of concern, which warmed his heart.

"Mom, I'm really fine. Everything they say on the news is just an exaggeration. Can't you hear how lively I sound right now? I'm dropping by today, Mom. Don't buy or cook anything for dinner, though. I'm bringing ingredients over. Let's have a sumptuous hotpot with the brats today."

"Alright, but are you really fine?" Su Lan asked doubtfully.

Anyone would have the same doubt, considering what happened to Zhang Wuji. Three days was hardly enough for a full recovery.

"I'm really fine, Mom. You'll see!" Zhang Wuji firmly assured.
