Chapter 38

Michael and Louisa were sitting in the garden, talking. In fact, more enjoying each other's company than actually talking.

"I think I'll be here for your birthday, Lou." He said. She would turn fifteen in a week.

"Thank you, Michael." She answered. "I'm glad you came. Your father really needed you."

Louisa had never seen her uncle in such a state. It was true that she hadn't lived with him for a long time, but still, the image he gave was of a strong, tough man. But she remembered that, even if he didn't look like it, he was sweet and understanding. Therefore, what the eyes see does not always reflect what the soul actually is.

"Yes. Dad was always very strong, but his brother, despite not being in communication, was very loved. I can't even imagine what I would have done without Roger Crawford."

Louisa put her hand on Michael's shoulder.

"Everything will be fine. Your father will live for many, many years." She said and smiled sweetly.

"I hope so." He said.
