The Same Painful Feeling

Alina almost burst into tears when she heard the poetic words just flow from Nathan's mouth. She lays her head on his shoulder again, and he treats her like a beloved queen, so tender, so full of warmth and affection.

"I'm so scared, Nat."

"I know," Nathan rubbed the girl's forehead.

The girl took his hand, then held it to her chest, gripping it tightly.

"So scared," Alina kissed the back of Nathan's hand. "But I trust you. Being near you gives me comfort and strength."

Nathan smiled, he kissed the girl's forehead, nose, then lips for a few seconds.

"You know," Nathan said, "I feel the same way about all of this."

Alina looked into those emerald green eyes and Nathan laughed almost silently.

"I mean," Nathan said, "my feelings about waiting for the extinction of us, the human race to occur. I felt the same way when I was waiting for my mother."

"Your mother?" Alina furrowed her brow.
