Job Hunting

"Don't even get me started on what that is. " i yawn.

This morning, I didn't eat before going in to work, and now my hunger is trying to make a grand appearance.

" There's food in the kitchen. You can have some. " Jap points towards the kitchen. " Just don't take all, don't forget we still need to have dinner. "

" When did you cook?" I ask in curiosity. Last I checked, there was no food when I let for work. Jap was complaining of the increase in tuition fee, so he had to pay up the money.

" How can I leave my poor Laty hungry? I was initially planning on taking the food to you when I complete this. " He motions to his books.

Hearing his words made smile brightly. A very grateful look on my face as I did so. Without Jap, I don't Know what would have become of me. I don't know how I would have survived in this cold bleak world.

"Have I told you how much I love you?" I raise a brow at him.

"Ummm." He click his finger on his jaw. "I don't think I've heard you say of that before." He says with a small smile.

" Then hear it now. I love you!" Rushing to his side, I peck him on his cheek before leaving for the kitchen. I can't read allow my stomach announce its hunger again.

Am not a bad uncle.

"Am off to school." Jap comes into my room. When you here room, you'll probably think it's one of those normal rooms you know. Don't think so, my is by far a far cry from the other rooms you've seen. The only valuable thing here is the bed Jab got for me. Aside from that, the few clothes I have on hanger and a deal chair, there's nothing else in here. It isn't like the rooms you see on movies and novels.

Dressed in a blue crazy jeans, and red polo, he have his head slicked to the side.

"Bye." I smile at him.

"Are you wearing contacts?" He gives me a curious look. His head tilted to the side as he looks into my eyes.

"Contacts? I don't wear contacts to sleep..... oh my God." I hastily rose from the bed, my hand covering my eyes.

" What's wrong?" Jap asks.

You saw my real eye colour, and you're asking what's wrong!!!!!

" It's nothing. " I swallow, "I forgot to remove these things. I guess I'll go ahead to do so." How can I be so careless as to forget to wear my contacts when I woke up from sleep?

It's not as if am unaware he visits my room before leaving for work.

"Why will you wear that contact? I've not seen it before."

"I was practicing on something. " Please don't ask me more. Please go ahead to school. Please.....

" Oh ok." He still looks like he don't believe my words. " I'll be off to school. I guess we'll see when I return?"

" Yes we will." I nod my head.

" Btw, the contact fits you more than your eyes." Winking at me, be walks out my door and Gently closed it.

"Phew." I wipe out imaginary sweat from my brow. " Thank the Lord for little mercies." I really don't want him to know this is my real eye colour.

In order to hide who I was, I left five states behind before I got to this one. This city wasn't my choice, but I had to stop when money for transportation got exhausted, and I met Jab.

Ever since I came to this place, I've Always worn black contacts. I never did want to stand out like I did in the orphanage.

With my eye colour changed, I don't think anyone who knew me before Will know am the one.

Taking my bath, I get dressed in my only formal clothes, putting on my contact, l leave my room.

Jap like Always( except for yesterday) left some breakfast on the table for me.

I love you Jab!

I shout in my mind.

If the superstition I always hear of is true, he'll likely sneeze now.

Still thanking him in my mind, I eat the delicious meal.

I've being walking for hours now with no success. Three of the jobs I found wasn't paying that much..

Now, you might ask why I didn't take them since am out looking for an urgent job. Don't worry, I'll tell you.

Should I be sacked half way through the work, am not confident I'll take much home. The Money I might be given won't be enough for a week meal.

You see why I need to get a good paying job, that way I can assist Jab with the feeding.

Walking through the streets, I pass the baker's shop I once worked in. Looking in there, I lock eyes with the owner who immediately gave me a really deadly glare, one that would have mercilessly killed me right before my time had it not being for its impossibility.

"Hi." I wave at him. A smile on my face. But he didn't even look my way, talk more of waving back. He really must think am a bad luck.

Tired and exhausted beyond relieve, I decide to sit in a public parking lot that looks like it's not being in use. It didn't take me long before I saw a fallen brick, and I decide to sit on it.

Right now, am not only hungry and tired, am super thirsty and frustrated at the world right now. I feel like jumping down from..... Hold on for a minute, I didn't think those thoughts, did I?

No, I don't think so.

I sat there for a long time as I thought on what to do. I really don't want to go home without any success. I don't have the mind to look into Jab's eyes and tell him am not contributing this month.

"Excuse me."

I startled at the sound of the unfamiliar voice. Looking up, I see an unfamiliar man smiling at me. I don't even need to give his attire a once over to know how influential this man really is. His clothes tells it all.

"Good afternoon sir!" I swallow deeply, my heart pounding like a pestle on a mortar.

"You must be here for the interview isn't it?"

Interview?

Which interview?

I would asked exactly that, but a wise mind told me to go along with his words. Who knows if this is how fate is trying to help poor me get a job.

"Yes." I smile. My Palms shaking due to my nervousness.

"Great. If you don't mind..." He gestured for me to follow him.

Taking a very deep steady breathe, I follow after him.
